About ad delivery

Our delivery system determines who we show your ads to, when we show them and where we show them. This article covers how we make these determinations.

  • During ad set creation, you chose a target audience (e.g. people in France interested in cooking) and an optimisation event (e.g. an app install). We show your ad to people in that target audience who are likely to get you that optimisation event (e.g. people in France interested in cooking who are likely to install your app).
  • We show people an ad from your ad set. If your ad set has multiple ads, we show each one equally at the beginning of a campaign. As we see how each ad performs, we begin showing the highest-performing one more than the others.
  • For every opportunity to show someone an ad, we hold an auction to determine which gets shown. The winner isn't the highest bidder but the ad that creates the most value for people and businesses. We recommend allowing us to show your ads across all placements for best results. This is called "automatic placement".

The longer we show your ad, the better sense we get of when might be a good time to show it. For example, if your ad is getting better results in the morning, we'll start trying to show it more often in the morning.
