Integrate your lead ads with MailChimp

If you're using MailChimp to manage your customers, you can integrate your Facebook lead ads directly with MailChimp. This will allow you to have all of your new leads appear instantly in one of your mailing lists on MailChimp.

Integrating your lead forms with MailChimp

To integrate directly with MailChimp:

  1. Go to your Facebook Page.
  2. Click Publishing tools at the top of your Page.
  3. Click Leads setup (only visible to Page Advertisers or Page Admins once a lead ads campaign has been created).
  4. In the Leads setup search box, type MailChimp and select MailChimp from the list of CRM options that appear.
  5. Click the blue Connect button that appears.
  6. You'll be re-directed to a page where you'll be asked to log in to your MailChimp account. You'll need to know your MailChimp username and password to continue. Fill in the form with this information, and click Log in.
  7. If your login is successful, you'll be sent back to the Leads setup section. Once there, you'll need to link one of your lead forms to MailChimp to continue. To do this, click the Select form drop-down and select the form you'd like to connect.
  8. Next, you'll need to choose one of your mailing lists from MailChimp to link the form to. Doing so will allow you to automatically send the leads you get through your lead form to your mailing list in MailChimp. If you encounter an error at this stage, see the section Why do I get an error when selecting my mailing list? below.
  9. After selecting your mailing list, you'll want to match the fields on your MailChimp mailing list with the fields on your Facebook lead form. To do this, click the drop-down next to each MailChimp field and select the option from the drop-down menu that most closely matches the field selected. For example, if you have an "email" field on MailChimp, you'd match that to Email address.
  10. Click Save form.

Adding additional forms

After completing the steps above, you'll have the option to add additional lead form connections to MailChimp.

To add additional form connections:

  1. Go to your Facebook Page.
  2. Click Publishing tools at the top of your Page.
  3. Click Leads setup (only visible to Page Advertisers or Page Admins once a lead ads campaign has been created).
  4. You should see a list of connected forms. To add new forms, click the blue Link form option.
  5. Next, you'll need to choose one of the mailing lists from MailChimp to link the form to. Doing so will allow you to automatically send the leads you get through your lead form to your mailing list in MailChimp.
  6. You'll now want to match the fields on your form to the fields on your MailChimp mailing list. To do this, click the drop-down menu next to each field and select the option from the drop-down menu that most closely matches the field selected, for example, if you have an "email" field on MailChimp, you'd match that to Email address.
  7. Click Save form.

Editing your form connections

After connecting your lead form to MailChimp using the integration steps at the top of this page, you'll have the option to edit that connection. You can change the CRM mailing list that your form is connected to or delete the connection.

To edit your connection:

  1. Go to your Facebook Page.
  2. Click Publishing tools at the top of your Page.
  3. Click Leads setup (only visible to Page Advertisers or Page Admins once a lead ads campaign has been created).
  4. You should see a list of connected forms. Click Edit next to the form that you'd like to update
  5. You can now make changes to your form, including changing the mailing list that the form is connected to or any of the fields included (e.g. email address).

To delete your connection:

  1. Follow the first three steps outlined above to edit your connection.
  2. After completing those steps, you should see a list of connected forms. Click Remove next to the form that you'd like to update.
  3. Click Remove to confirm.

Why do I get an error when selecting my mailing list?

Your MailChimp list contains fields that can't be connected to your Facebook lead form. The MailChimp fields that are currently supported are Text, Number, Date, Zip Code (US only), Phone and Website. If you have other fields in your MailChimp list, you'll need to remove them or change them to one of the compatible fields listed above.

For example, if you're capturing birthdays in your mailing list, you can capture these using the MailChimp Date field instead of the Birthday field. If you're capturing addresses in your mailing list, you can capture these using the MailChimp Text field instead of the Address field. You can then map these fields to their corresponding Facebook fields. If your mailing list contains Birthday,Address or another incompatible field from MailChimp and you don't want to change or remove them, you can select a different mailing list that only contains compatible fields.

To update your fields in MailChimp:

  1. Log in to MailChimp
  2. Click Lists at the top of the page
  3. Next to the list you want to update, click the [arrow icon] next to Stats and select Settings.
  4. Click List fields and Merge tags.
  5. Click [trash icon] next to any fields that you'd like to remove.
  6. To add new fields, click Add a field and select the type of field that you'd like to add. Remember, if you want to capture birthdays, select the Date field, and if you want to capture addresses, select the Text field.
  7. Give your field a name so that you can recognise it later.
  8. Click Save Changes.
