Why is my boost not available?
Diagnose the boost unavailable
- Go to your Facebook Page.
- Find the post that you'd like to boost and hover over Boost unavailable. You'll see a tip that explains why you're unable to boost the post.

Boost unavailable reasons and solutions
Cover photos can't be turned into ads because it's recommended that you apply your budget to boosts and ads that drive audience engagement and brand awareness. If your cover photo is a brand creative that you want to share to a wider audience, upload the photo as a new post and then boost it.
- Go to your Facebook Page.
- Click Photo/Video at the top of your Page's timeline.
- Click Upload photos/video.
- Upload the photo that you'd like to boost.
- Add a caption or description.
- Click Share Now.
- Click the Boost Post button on the new post.
- To drive people from Facebook to take actions that are important to your business, add a post button to your ad (optional).
- Select the audience that you'd like to reach (may select multiple) or click Create new audience. If you click Create new audience, you'll have the option to create an audience based on traits such as age, location, interests and more.
- Click the drop-down below Total budget to select a budget for your boosted post. You can select a pre-filled budget or click Choose your own and enter a custom budget.
- Choose a duration option or enter a custom end date next to Run this ad until.
- Select your preferred payment option. If there are no payment options available for your account, you'll be prompted to add one after clicking Boost.
- Confirm that the rest of the fields are complete.
- Click Boost.
Once your ad is reviewed and approved, it will start running.

- Once the video has uploaded, go to the video on your Page's timeline and click Boost Post.
- To drive people from Facebook to take actions that are important to your business, add a post button to your ad (optional).
- Select the audience that you'd like to reach (may select multiple) or click Create new audience. If you click Create new audience, you'll have the option to create an audience based on traits such as age, location, interests and more.
- Click the drop-down below Total budget to select a budget for your boosted post. You can select a pre-filled budget or click Choose your own and enter a custom budget.
- Choose a duration option or enter a custom end date next to Run this ad until.

- Click Boost.
Once your ad is reviewed and approved, it will start running.

Draft posts can't be boosted. Publish your draft post before trying to boost it.
- Go to your Facebook Page.
- Click Publishing tools at the top of your Page.
- Under the Posts section, click Drafts.
- On the draft post that you'd like to boost, click the drop-down list next to Edit and select Publish.
- Find the post on your Facebook Page.
- Click Boost post.
- Select the audience that you'd like to reach (may select multiple) or click Create new audience. If you click Create new audience, you'll have the option to create an audience based on traits such as age, location, interests and more.
- Click the drop-down below Total budget to select a budget for your boosted post. You can select a pre-filled budget or click Choose your own and enter a custom budget.
- Choose a duration option or enter a custom end date next to Run this ad until.

Notes can't be boosted. Instead, try creating a new post with the content from your note and boosting it.
- Go to the note that you were trying to boost.
- Copy the content, such as text and images, from the note.
- Go to your Facebook Page.
- Click Write a post.
- Paste the copied content into the new post.
- Click Share Now.
- Find the post on your Page and click Boost Post.
- Select the audience that you'd like to reach (may select multiple) or click Create new audience. If you click Create new audience, you'll have the option to create an audience based on traits such as age, location, interests and more.
- Click the drop-down below Total budget to select a budget for your boosted post. You can select a pre-filled budget or click Choose your own and enter a custom budget.
- Choose a duration option or enter a custom end date next to Run this ad until.

- Click Boost.
Only Pages with the blue verified badge can boost live and scheduled videos at this time. Boost a different type of media that's available to all Pages regardless of verification status, such as a standard video.
- Go to your Facebook Page.
- Click Photo/Video at the top of your timeline.
- Click Upload photos/video.
- Select the video that you want to boost.
- Enter details for your video to create your video post.
- Set the thumbnail for your video post.
- Click Publish.

Expired posts aren't useful for your audience, so we wouldn't want you to boost them. Create a new post (even if it's similar or identical to the expired post) and boost it.
- Go to the expired post that you'd like to boost.
- Copy the content – such as text and images – that you want to boost.
- Go to your Facebook Page.
- Depending on the type of post that you'd like to boost, click Offer/Discount, Create an event or Publish a job post at the top of your Page's timeline.
- Paste the copied content into the new post.
- Click Share Now.
- Find the post on your Page and click Boost Post.
- Select the audience that you'd like to reach (may select multiple) or click Create new audience. If you click Create new audience, you'll have the option to create an audience based on traits such as age, location, interests and more.
- Click the drop-down below Total budget to select a budget for your boosted post. You can select a pre-filled budget or click Choose your own and enter a custom budget.

Expired offers aren't useful for your audience, so we wouldn't want you to boost them. Create a new offer (even if it's similar or identical to a prior offer) and boost it.
- Go to the expired offer that you'd like to boost.
- Copy the content that you want to include in the boosted post, such as the text and images.
- Go to your Facebook Page.
- Click Offer/Discount at the top of your Page's timeline.
- Describe your offer.
- Edit the expiration date for your offer if you'd like it to run longer or shorter than a week.
- Add a photo.
- Select whether people can use the offer Online or In store.
- Set up a unique code or barcode for your offer and/or add terms and conditions (optional).
- Click Publish.
- Once your offer ad is approved, go to the offer on your Page and click Boost Offer.
- Select the audience that you'd like to reach (may select multiple) or click Create new audience. If you click Create new audience, you'll have the option to create an audience based on traits such as age, location, interests and more.
- Click the drop-down below Total budget to select a budget for your boosted post. You can select a pre-filled budget or click Choose your own and enter a custom budget.
- Choose a duration option or enter a custom end date next to Run this ad until.
- Select your preferred payment option. If there are no payment options available for your account, you'll be prompted to add one after clicking Boost.
- Confirm that the rest of the fields are complete.
- Click Boost offer.
If your Page is unpublished, you won't be able to boost a post.
- Go to your Facebook Page.
- Find the post you want to boost.
- Click Boost post.
- A dialogue will appear prompting you to publish your Page. Click Publish Page.
- Go back to the post that you'd like to boost and click Boost Post.
- Select the audience that you'd like to reach (may select multiple) or click Create new audience. If you click Create new audience, you'll have the option to create an audience based on traits such as age, location, interests and more.
- Click the drop-down below Total budget to select a budget for your boosted post. You can select a pre-filled budget or click Choose your own and enter a custom budget.
- Choose a duration option or enter a custom end date next to Run this ad until.
- Select your preferred payment option. If there are no payment options available for your account, you'll be prompted to add one after clicking Boost.
- Confirm that the rest of the fields are complete.
- Click Boost.
Your role determines what you can do on a Page. To advertise, contact an admin on the Page and request that they update your Page role to either an admin, advertiser, moderator or editor and then try boosting your post.
To give someone a role if you're an admin:
- Click Settings at the top of your Page.
- Click Page roles in the left column.
- Enter a name or email in the box and select the person from the list that appears.
- Click Editor to select a role from the drop-down menu.
- Click Add and enter your password to confirm.
A post can't be boosted if it contains a Facebook Click ID. A Facebook Click ID is a string of characters that is sometimes added to the end of a URL when someone views or clicks a link on Facebook. Create a new post (even if it's similar or identical to the current post) and boost it.
- Find the post you'd like to boost.
- Copy the content – such as text and images – that you want to boost.
- Go to your Facebook Page.
- Click Write a post at the top of your timeline and enter your content.
- Confirm that any links you insert into the post don't contain the Facebook Click ID. To remove a Facebook Click ID from your URL, find the text string fbclid= and then delete fbclid= and all subsequent characters.
- Click Share Now.
- Find the post on your Page and click Boost Post.
- Select the audience that you'd like to reach (may select multiple) or click Create new audience. If you click Create new audience, you'll have the option to create an audience based on traits such as age, location, interests and more.
- Click the drop-down below Total budget to select a budget for your boosted post. You can select a pre-filled budget or click Choose your own and enter a custom budget.
- Choose a duration option or enter a custom end date next to Run this ad until.
- Select your preferred payment option. If there are no payment options available for your account, you'll be prompted to add one after clicking Boost.
- Confirm that the rest of the fields are complete.
- Click Boost.
Note: A Facebook Click ID is usually a string of 61 characters.
Once your ad is reviewed and approved, it will start running.
Your ad account was flagged for unusual activity, so it can't run any boosted posts.
To check the status of your account:
- Go to your Ads Manager.
- Under status, confirm that your status is Active.
- Go to your Ads Manager.
- Click Reactivate at the top of the Page.
The job post that you're trying to boost doesn't appear on your Page because it's either unpublished or expired. Create a new job post and boost it once it's been approved.
- Go to the job post that you'd like to boost.
- Copy the content – such as the text and images – that you want to include in the boosted post.
- Go to your Facebook Page.
- Click Publish a job post at the top of your Page's timeline.
- Describe the job post by entering a job title, location, job type and details.
- Add a salary, additional questions and an email address for applications (optional).
- Click Publish job post.
- Find the new job post on your Page.
- Click Boost post.
- Enter the locations that you'd like your job post to reach (may select multiple).
- Click the drop-down below Total budget to select a budget for your boosted post. You can select a pre-filled budget or click Choose your own and enter a custom budget.
- Choose a duration option or enter a custom end date next to Run this ad until.
- Select your preferred payment option. If there are no payment options available for your account, you'll be prompted to add one after clicking Boost.
- Click Boost.
Use Business Manager to create and manage ads for your Page.
- Open Business Manager.
- Under posts, find the post that you want to boost and click it.
- Click Boost post.
- Select the audience that you'd like to reach (may select multiple) or click Create new audience. If you click Create new audience, you'll have the option to create an audience based on traits such as age, location, interests and more.
- Click the drop-down below Total budget to select a budget for your boosted post. You can select a pre-filled budget or click Choose your own and enter a custom budget.
