Policies for running an ongoing promotion to capture leads
Below you'll find a list of policies and tips for running ongoing promotions to collect contact information, or leads, on Facebook. In addition to the information listed below, please read the Terms for Restricted Lead Adverts to ensure the adverts you create are compliant with Facebook's policies.
Comply with the law. Make sure you comply with applicable privacy, email and phone marketing laws when asking for and collecting personal information from people. All of the information collected in your form should only be viewed and used by you, the advertiser. You're solely responsible for compliant use and collection of the data. If you're not sure what your obligations are under these laws, you should seek to obtain legal advice and/or read the CAN-SPAM Act: A Compliance Guide for Business published by the FTC.
Do I need a privacy policy? We invite you to include a reference to your privacy policy, but including a link to your privacy policy isn't a strict requirement as long as you meet all of your obligations under the applicable laws and our terms.
Sensitive data. You may not use an ongoing promotion to collect sensitive date (e.g. health and financial data)
Minors. Ongoing promotions should not be used to collect data from minors.
Stick to your call-to-action. When you're creating an ongoing promotion to capture leads, you'll be asked to select one of the following call-to-action buttons:
- Apply Now: Encourage people to apply for a job, housing or something else. (e.g. We're now taking applications for stylists at three salon locations.)
- Download: Encourage people to download a file. (e.g. Get our free white paper on selling your home.)
- Get Quote: Provide information to get a quote for a product or service. (e.g. New clients get a 10% discount on housecleaning services.)
- Learn More: Encourage people to get more info about your product or service. (e.g. Talk to a member of our team about the best boutique hotels in Europe.)
- Sign Up: Encourage people to register for an event. (e.g. Join our free webinar to learn more about email marketing.)
- Subscribe: Encourage people to opt in to receive your emails. (e.g. Get new recipes delivered to your inbox every week.)
Don't spam. Make sure you don't collect a person's contact information without their consent or for other purposes you didn't specify in your ongoing promotion. When sending marketing messages to people, be polite. Don't message people too frequently, make sure you're always offering the ability to opt out from receiving subsequent messages and give people the ability to unsubscribe from your emails.
Don't sell. As you can collect contact information from customers, we have a policy that no advertiser may share or sell customer information.
