Appeal Community Guidelines actions

30/11/2019
This content is about Community Guidelines strikes. If your video was removed for copyright reasons, learn about your options for copyright strikes.

Community Guidelines strikes are issued when our reviewers are notified of a violation of the Community Guidelines. If a strike is issued, you'll get an email and see an alert in your account's Channel Settings the next time you sign in to YouTube.

Our reviewers are highly trained, but if you think that your video doesn't violate the Community Guidelines and was removed in error, you can appeal the strike.

Deleting the video will not resolve the strike. If you delete your video, the strike will remain and you won't be able to appeal again.

If you've received a Community Guidelines strike for links in your content, make sure you're familiar with our policy and appeals process for links in your content.

Appeal a Community Guidelines strike

Before you start: Review the Policy Center before appealing a strike on your account.

Follow the instructions below to see details about the strike in your account.

  1. Sign in to YouTube from your computer.
  2. Click your account icon > Creator Studio.
  3. In the left menu, click Channel > Status and features.
  4. Go to the Community Guidelines Status section.
  5. Select Appeal this decision.

Appeal a strike

After you submit an appeal

You'll get an email from YouTube letting you know the result of your appeal request. One of four things may happen:

  • If we find that your video did not violate our Community Guidelines, we'll reinstate it and remove the strike from your account.
  • In some instances, it's possible that we may remove the strike from your account, but keep the video down.
  • In some instances, it's possible that we may reinstate your video behind an age restriction. This will happen if a violation is not found, but the content isn't appropriate for all audiences.
  • If we find that your video was in violation of our Community Guidelines, we will uphold the strike and the video will remain down from the site.

You may appeal each video strike only once. If we uphold our original decision on the strike, you won't be able to appeal future strikes on your account for a period of 60 days.
