About click and impression tags

30/11/2019

A click or impression tag is a URL that your browser processes in the background. Your browser doesn't visit the tag URL, but rather it requests information from a server whenever it recognizes a tag URL. Facebook Attribution keeps track of the requests from browsers and classifies them as clicks, impressions and conversions based on the URL.

Tag components

Tags send the following information when tracking ad campaigns:

https://ad.atdmt.com/i/img;adv=1;ec=2;c.a=3;s.a=4;p.a=5;as.a=6;a.a=7;cache=;qpb=1?h=https://...

  • "c.a" is the campaign that a user sees (assigned by publisher or buying platform, or hard coded when site-serving).

  • "as.a" is the ad set that a user sees (assigned by publisher or buying platform, or hard coded when site-serving).
  • "a.a" is the ad that a user sees (assigned by publisher or buying platform, or hard coded when site-serving).
  • "cache" is a cachebuster that ensures that a user's browser will follow the tracking URL even if they have recently seen an ad from the same placement or ad set.
  • "qpb" is used only in click tags and indicates that the URL to follow is in the tag and has not been encoded.
  • "h=" indicates where to redirect browsers to in order to send users to a landing page.
