This feature is gradually being rolled out and may not be available to you at this time.

WhatsApp message templates are specific message formats that businesses use to send out notifications or customer care messages to people who have opted in to notifications. This can include:

  • Appointment reminders
  • Dispatch information
  • Issue resolution
  • Payment updates

Requirements

Before you begin, you will need to sign up for Business Manager and Create a WhatsApp business account. You will also need a developer to implement the message templates into the API after completing the steps below.

Setup

  1. Navigate to Business Manager.
  2. Click Create and manage.
  3. Click WhatsApp manager.
  4. Navigate to the top bar and click Message templates.

Note: If you have multiple WhatsApp business accounts, select the WhatsApp account where you want to create a message template in the drop-down menu.

  5. Click Create template.
  6. Complete the following fields:
    • Name: Enter name of the template in lowercase letters, numbers and underscores only.
    • Type: Select the appropriate template type under the drop-down list. The template type must fall under one of the template type options.
    • Language: Add additional languages for each translation of the same template. If you need to support the message in multiple languages, you will need to click + New Language to select the new language and add the message content.
    • Content: Input the content of the message template here and preview how your message will appear. You can format text (such as bold or italicise) by using the code found in the Formatting your messages developer doc.

Note: A developer can add unique variables such as specific names, locations or tracking numbers when inputting the templates into the API by clicking Add variable and referring to the Creating message templates developer document.

  7. When completed, click Submit. The message template will now be sent for review. You can find the status of the review in the Message templates tab.
  8. After your message has been approved, you can now work with your developer to input your message templates into the API by referring to the Sending message templates developer document.
