To create an Engagement Custom Audience of people who've engaged with your Instagram business profile:

  1. Go to your Audiences.
  2. Click the Create Audience drop-down and choose Custom Audience.

Note: If you've never created an audience of any kind before, you'll see a Create a Custom Audiences button, not a drop-down. Everything else will be the same.

  3. Click Engagement.
  4. Click Instagram business profile.
  5. Click the "Business profile" drop-down and select the business profile whose engagement you want use to create your audience.
  6. Set up your first rules section by clicking the engagement-type drop-down and choose what type of engagement you want to use as a basis for inclusion in your audience. For example, you could include anyone who has engaged with your business profile in any way or anyone who sent a message to your business profile.

Note: Your first rules section must be inclusive.

  7. Fill in the "In the past" field with the number of days you want us to go back to find people who engaged with your business profile for inclusion in your audience. We can go back up to 365 days.

Important: If you tell us to go back 30 days and someone engaged 29 days ago, they'll be in your audience. However, if they fail to engage the next day, they'll then be removed from it. Anyone new who engages within the time period you choose will be added to the audience. This means that the audience is constantly being refreshed, so you don't need to edit or create a new Engagement Custom Audience for a given business profile unless you want to change the time period or the type of engagement.

  8. Add additional rule sections (for up to a total of five) as desired by clicking Include more or exclude. Including more people means that if a person meets the criteria of any of your inclusionary rules sections, they'll be in your audience. Excluding people means that if a person meets any of your exclusionary rules sections, they won't be in your audience.

Note: Exclusionary rules sections override inclusionary ones. So if someone meets an exclusionary rule and an inclusionary one, they will be excluded from the audience.
  9. Add an audience name (and description, if you want to).
  10. Click Save.
