About target cost

30/11/2019
The target cost bid strategy used to be known as manual bidding, set as an "average". We've made some improvements to our system so that this bidding strategy maintains more stable costs per result near the target you set. We now describe it as "target cost" to more accurately reflect how the strategy works, and its benefits and tradeoffs.

Using this option tells Facebook to aim for the average cost to be within a 10% range of the amount you enter.

  • It's best for staying at a specific cost per optimisation event.
  • We may not be able to get you your exact desired cost on average over the lifetime of your campaign, but we'll get as close to it as possible after you've exited the learning stage. Also, not all optimisation goals are available for target cost.
  • Target cost is available for app install, conversion, lead generation and product catalogue sales campaigns. (If you're not using one of those campaign types, this bid strategy isn't available).

If your target cost is GBP 10 and your current average cost is GBP 8, we'll seek out results that will get you closer to GBP 10 – even if we could be getting a lower cost instead. If maximising the efficiency of your budget is more important than maintaining your target cost, you should use the lowest cost bid strategy instead.
