Add, edit, and remove managed placements

30/11/2019

If you'd like your ads to show on certain sites that are part of the Display Network, add them as placements to your ad groups. These could be placements related to your products or services, or online destinations that your customers visit.

Managed placements

Remember, placements can be one of two types: managed placements or automatic placements. The instructions below only cover managed placements, but there are a few other ways to target your ads on the Display Network.

How to add managed placements

You can add placements to ad groups in your Display Network campaigns. To do so, your campaign must target the Display Network, which includes "Search Network with Display Select" campaigns.

Adding managed placements

  1. Sign in to your Google Ads account at https://ads.google.com.
  2. Click the Campaigns tab at the top, and choose the campaign you want to edit.
  3. Go to your Display Network tab and click + Targeting, which is located above the graph.
  4. Select an ad group.
  5. Click the "Add targeting" drop-down menu and select "Placements." Type in the name or URL of the placement where you'd like the ads in this ad group to show. If you'd like to add multiple placements at once to your ad group, click the Add multiple placements at once link at the bottom of the box.
  6. Click Close and then Save to add the placements to your ad group.

How to edit managed placements

You can pause or enable a specific placement, edit the placement itself, and edit bids you’ve set on your placements.

Editing managed placements

  1. Click the Campaigns tab at the top of your Google Ads account
  2. Select a campaign and then an ad group.
  3. Go to the Display Network tab.
  4. Click the Placements tab and look for placements with the status "Managed."
    • Pause or enable a placement: To pause a placement, click the pause symbol next to that placement in your table. To enable a placement, click the green dot.
    • Edit actual placement: To change a placement, simply click the placement, enter your new placement, and click Save.
    • Edit placement level bids: To edit your bids for an individual placement, simply click the bid under the "Max CPC" column, enter your new bid, and click Save.

Copy placements to another ad group

Once you've set up placements for one ad group, you can copy your placements to other ad groups in Display Network-only campaigns. First, you'll need to copy the placements you want. Then you can paste them into a new ad group.

To copy your placements:

  • Click the Display Network tab.
  • Click the Placements tab.
  • Select the checkbox next to the placements you want to copy.
  • From the Edit menu, select Copy (or Control-C for PCs, Command-C for Macs).

To paste your copied placements:

  • Click the Campaigns tab.
  • Click the name of the campaign where you want to paste your placements.
  • Check the box next to the name of the ad group where you want to paste your placements.
  • From the Edit menu, select Paste (or Control-V for PCs, Command-V for Macs).

How to remove managed placements

You can remove managed placements from ad groups in your Display Network campaigns. Note that your ads may still appear on a managed placement you've previously removed if the ad group contains keywords, topics, etc. that match with it.

Removing managed placements

  1. Click the Campaigns tab at the top of your account.
  2. Select a campaign and then an ad group.
  3. Go to the Display Network tab.
  4. Click the Placements tab and look for placements with the status "Managed." Placements with this status are the placements that you've added to your ad group. You'll only be able to remove placements that have a "Managed" status.
  5. Select the placement you'd like to remove by selecting the checkbox to its left.
  6. Click the "Edit" drop-down menu and select "Remove."
  7. Click OK, and your placement will be removed.
