Analytics for mobile apps

30/11/2019

To use the latest generation of app reporting in Google Analytics, you'll need to install the Firebase SDK. If you do not have a Firebase project, go to firebase.google.com to get started. Once you have completed the setup, return to Google Analytics and complete the below steps.

To connect to the Firebase project, you need to be an Owner of the project.

Create a new account to report on your mobile apps

  1. Sign in to your Google Analytics account.
  2. Click Admin.
  3. In the Account column, click + Create Account.
  4. Select Mobile app.
  5. Under Setting up your Account:
    • Enter an Account Name.
Use a specific and descriptive name, so you can easily tell what this account is for when you see the name in the Account list.
    • Accept the default to add the account to your current organization. Clear the check box to create the account outside the organization.
  6. Under Setting up your property, enter the App Name. This becomes the name for the default property in the account

If you plan to track more than one app in this account, use a specific, descriptive name, and include the edition or version number. This will help you keep your app properties organized in your account.

  7. Select an Industry Category.
  8. Select the Reporting Time Zone.
This is used as the day boundary for your reports, regardless of where the data originates.
    • The time zone setting only affects how data appears in your reports and not how you collect data. For example, if you choose United States, Pacific Time, then the beginning and end of each day is calculated based on Pacific Time, regardless of whether sessions originate in New York, London, or Moscow.
    • If your Analytics account is linked to a Google Ads account, the time zone is automatically set to your Google Ads preference and you will not see this option. This ensures accurate reporting on your Google Ads campaigns.
    • Changing your time zone affects data going forward, and is not applied retroactively. You may notice a flat spot or a spike in your report data if you update your time setting after you’ve already been using this property. Your reports might also refer to the old time zone for a short period after you update this setting.
  9. Under the Data Sharing Settings section, select the settings you want. Learn more about the data sharing settings.
  10. Click Get Tracking ID to download the Firebase SDKs.

Create a new property within an existing account

  1. Sign in to your Google Analytics account.
  2. Click Admin.
  3. In the Property column, click + Create Property.
  4. Select Mobile app.
  5. Connect to Firebase.
Select the Firebase project for your app.
If you do not have a Firebase project, go to firebase.google.com to get started. Once you have completed the setup, return to Google Analytics and complete the steps above.
