Change your Google app settings
✅ Android
You can change your settings for the Google app, including settings for voice search, past searches, SafeSearch, and notifications. Available settings can vary by device and app version.
Open the settings menu
- On your Android phone or tablet, open your Google app

- Tap Menu

Accounts & privacy
- Google Account: Pick the Google Account you want to use.
Note: To remove your account from the app, sign out. - My activity: See or delete past searches and other activity saved to your Google Account, including things you search for, your voice searches and commands, and places you go. Learn more about My Activity.
- SafeSearch filter: Filter explicit content from your search results. Learn more about SafeSearch.
Search language
Pick the language for your search results.
Voice search results come in the same language as your voice search.
Voice
Change the settings that control voice search and voice actions.
- Languages: Voice search results come in the same language as your voice search.
- Speech output: Hear spoken responses to some of your searches.
- Voice match: Pick on which screens you can say “Ok Google." Learn more about Ok Google.
- Offline speech recognition: Download more languages to use when you’re not connected to the internet.
- Block offensive words: Offensive words that you search for will be replaced in the search box with asterisks (*).
- Bluetooth headset: Use your voice over a Bluetooth headset when one is connected.
Offline search
You can start a search while you're not connected to the internet. When you're connected again, Google will get the results and notify you.
To turn offline search on or off, tap Always retry searches.
Discover
- Show Discover: Turn Discover on or off. If you turn Discover off, you won't see any cards in the Google app, but you can still use the app to search.
- Manage card history: See or delete your card history, including cards shown in Discover and whether you interacted with them. Learn more about managing your card history.
- Reset Discover preferences: This will turn off any customizations you've created (like your favorite sports teams). It will also turn off Discover on all of your devices.
Video
In apps
To show app information in your search suggestions and results, check one or more of the boxes. For example, if you check the box next to your Contacts app, when you search for your mom’s name, her contact information could appear in search suggestions and results. Location
If you turn off location, your search results could be less relevant. And some features won't work.

You can change your settings for the Google app, including settings for voice search, past searches, SafeSearch, and notifications. Available settings can vary by device and app version.
Open the settings menu
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google app

- At the top left, tap Settings
.
Add the Google app to your dock
To easily open the Google app later, add it to your dock:
- To free up space on your dock, touch and hold on an app on the dock.
- Drag the app up, and then release it on your home screen.
- Touch and hold the Google app
.
- Drag the Google app down, and then release it on your dock.
- Press the Home button.
Settings you can change
Video
Videos could start playing automatically without sound.
You can turn these autoplay video previews on or off. You can also change when they'll play, like on Wi-Fi or mobile.
Incognito mode
Discover
- Turn Discover on or off: When you turn off Discover, you won't see any cards in the Google app, but you can still use the app to search. Learn how to turn off Discover.
- Change your settings for Discover: You can change which cards show up and your home or work addresses.
Voice search
Change the settings used when you search or complete an action using your voice.
- Spoken answers: Choose whether answers are spoken back to you when you do a search.
- Bluetooth: If this setting is on, you can do voice searches or actions using a Bluetooth headset, when one is connected.
- "Ok Google" hotword: Decide whether saying "Ok Google" will trigger a voice search from anywhere in the app. The "Ok Google" setting is available only on iPhone 4s+ and iPad 2+ devices.
- Language: The language you pick here works with any voice searches you do. If you want, this can be different from your device's display language.
Search settings
- SafeSearch filters: You can block most adult content from your search results by using SafeSearch. Learn more about SafeSearch.
- Private results: You can see private results from other products you use, like Gmail and Google Calendar. For example, you can search for information about your upcoming flights or restaurant reservations.
- Enable trending searches: Choose whether you want to see trending searches when using the Google app.

Privacy (past searches, location & diagnostic settings)
History
- On-device history: When this setting is on, searches you do while using the Google app will be saved in your history on the device you're using. On-device history is separate from Web & App Activity. Learn how to see and control your search activity.
- Clear on-device history: Delete any searches done on the Google app for the device you’re using. This won’t clear searches you’ve done on other devices or computers.
- Clear third party cookies: Delete your cookies for the Google app on the device you're using. This won’t clear cookies on other apps or mobile browsers, like Chrome or Safari.
Location
Learn how to change Google app location settings. You can also choose whether you want to open links to maps in Google Maps.
Diagnostic data
To help us improve our products and services for everyone, you can let the Google app send us information about how you use it and how it’s working.
For example, the Google app can send info like:
- Data from Google app crashes or other problems
- What other apps you have on your device
- Quality and length of your network connections (like mobile, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth)
If you have additional Web & App Activity turned on, this info will be stored with your account. You can see and delete it in My Activity. All info is used in accordance with Google’s Privacy Policy.
