Link to your associated website from videos

30/11/2019
You can link to your websites directly from your YouTube videos using cards as long as your site is associated with your YouTube channel and you are part of the YouTube Partner Program
Links on your YouTube Content to external websites that include pornography, malware, or other content that doesn’t meet our Community Guidelines, are not allowed on YouTube. Learn more about the policy for links in your content.

Step 1: Join the YouTube Partner Program

To link to your website from videos, you also need to be part of the YouTube Partner Program.

Note: If you have a YouTube channel participating in the YouTube Nonprofit Program, you don't need to be part of the YouTube Partner Program.

Step 2: Associate your site with your Google account

To link to your website from your videos, first add your site as an "associated website" in your Google account. If your website is already associated, you can skip to step 3.

  1. Go to Advanced Channel Settings by clicking your account icon > Creator Studio > Channel Advanced.
  2. In the "Associated website" section, enter your website's URL. It will show as "pending," unless you've verified the site before.
  3. Under the URL box, click Verify if you own the website or Request approval to have the website's owner approve it.
  4. You'll be redirected to Google's Search Console. Sign in with the same Google Account information that you use for your YouTube channel. (If you're not sure what account to use, you can check your account details on YouTube.)
  5. Follow the instructions to add a site to Search Console. You may be asked to choose a verification method.

After you add your site to Search Console, it will go through a verification process. Once verification is complete, the website's status will change from "pending" to "success" in your Advanced Channel Settings and you can follow the steps below to add a card that will take viewers to any page in that website.

Step 3: Add a card on videos to link to your website

After you associate your site with your account, you can add a card that links to your website directly on your videos.

  1. Go to your Video Manager by clicking your account icon > Creator Studio > Video Manager.
  2. Next to the video you want to change, click Edit > Cards.
  3. Click Add card.
  4. Next to "Link," click Create. If this is the first time you're using external links, accept the Terms & Conditions.
  5. Under "Associated website," select your website's URL from the Select site drop-down menu.
    • If you haven't associated a site with your channel or want to add a new site, click Add an associated website or Settings and follow the instructions to associate a site.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Add the card title, call to action, and teaser text. You can also upload an image.
  8. Click Create card.

Tip: You don't have to link to the homepage of your website. If there's specific information that you want to let your audience know about, you can link directly to that subpage on your site.

Don't use cards to further redirect to unauthorized sites from your associated website. Make sure that your associated websites comply with our Community Guidelines, Terms of Service, and other policies for this feature. Violations can result in your cards or links being removed, strikes against your account, and/or termination of your Google account. Refer to YouTube’s policies for more information.

Troubleshoot issues linking to associated websites

Why don't I see an "Associated website" section in my channel settings?

If you don't see an "Associated website" section in your Advanced Channel Settings, you may need to verify your account by going to youtube.com/verify . If you still don't see it, it might be because your channel is no longer eligible.

Why is my associated website is still pending?

Before it's approved, Search Console needs to verify that you own the website you'd like to associate with your YouTube channel — this can take some time. Verification is required to prevent spam and misrepresentation of brands or other entities.

To resolve a pending associated website, contact your webmaster or someone at your company who has access the Google Search Console for your site. Learn more about Associates in Search Console.

Can I associate more than one website with my YouTube channel?

First, you need to associate one website to your account to enable this feature in YouTube's Video Manager, then you can add more associated websites through Search Console. Make sure to log in to Search Console with the same Google Account as the one you use to access the YouTube channel.

Why do I get the "Please enter a valid URL" or "Website not associated with your Google account" error?

First, make sure you own this URL in the Search Console. Then make sure the URL you're pasting in the link field is correct:

  • Make sure it's an actual URL that includes the "http://" or "https://".
  • Use the exact same URL format as in the Search Console. For example, having "www." can make a difference for validation.
  • Make sure that new sites are listed separately in the Search Console.
