Read below to learn what Marketplace is, how you can use it for your business, as well as some benefits and tips to get started.

Reach buyers on Facebook

Marketplace is a place for people to discover, buy and sell items listed on Facebook within their local community. You can find lots of used or new things on Marketplace, from clothes to TVs and even vehicles and property.

When you post something to sell on Marketplace, people can use Facebook Messenger to ask you questions about the item. You can see all conversations with potential buyers from the Selling tab in Marketplace.

Nothing you post on Marketplace will appear in News Feed or your profile.

Note: All posts on Marketplace must comply with our Commerce Policy (which lists what's allowed to be sold on Facebook) and our Community Standards (such as images and descriptions).

Some of the benefits of selling on Marketplace are:

  • Chat with people interested in buying your items using Messenger.
  • Connect with people looking to buy your items in your local area.
  • Choose from lots of categories when you list items on Marketplace to help people narrow their search and find your items more easily.

Tips for selling on Marketplace

To help ensure a good experience when selling items on Marketplace, consider these tips:

  • Review our Commerce Policy before posting anything for sale.
  • Chat with the buyer about your payment preference. Consider accepting cash or a secure payment method that offers purchase protection. Be wary of bouncing cheques, and bear in mind that cashier and certified cheques can be counterfeit.
  • If you're meeting the buyer, meet in a public place. Don't invite buyers into your home. Before meeting up, bring your phone and tell someone you trust the exact location where you will meet, or ask them to come with you.
  • Protect your privacy. Don't share your financial information (for example, your PayPal login and password or bank account info) with anyone.
  • When you dispatch an item, communicate with your buyer. Let them know the dispatch timeline, carrier (FedEx etc.), delivery status and tracking information. Never dispatch an item before you receive full payment for it.
