Add a website property
Here is how to add a website to your Search Console account.
To add a website:
- Click the property selector dropdown in any Search Console page.
- Select + Add property on the dropdown and type the URL of the site or subsite to create as Search Console property. Specify the URL of your property exactly as it appears in the browser bar, including the final / mark. See What URL should I use? below for more details. Note that you must be able to prove that you own the site or section of that site.
- In the verification popup, select a verification method to prove that you own the site and follow the verification instructions on the page. Google-hosted sites (such as Blogger or Sites pages) are automatically verified. Learn more about verification.
- If your site supports multiple protocols (http:// and https://), you must add each as a separate property. Similarly, if you support multiple domains (for example example.com, m.example.com, and www.example.com) you must add each one as a separate site. Additional steps:
- If you support both www and non-www, be sure to specify your preferred domain (www or non-www).
- If you support other variations in your domain or protocol (m.example.com, http://example.com, https://example.com), consider picking canonical urls.
We recommend creating a separate Search Console property for each domain or folder that you want to track separately, as well as the most general URL that contains them all.
Example
If you have a travel site with specific subfolders covering Ireland, France, and Spain, you could add the following sites to your Search Console account:
- http://www.example.com/
- http://www.example.com/france/
- http://www.example.com/ireland/
- http://www.example.com/spain/
What URL should I use?
Enter the URL of exactly the domain, subdomain, or path branch for which you want to get data. The URL specifies which data is included in the property:

Support for non-latin characters
Search Console supports Internationalizing Domain Names in Applications (IDNA) as site URLs. Just type your domain name as usual, and it will appear correctly in Search Console. For example, if you type http://bücher.example.com/ in the Add property box, it will appear correctly.
When does data collection start?
Data collection for a property starts as soon as the property is added in any Search Console account, even before it is verified. Data collection continues as long as any user has that property in their account, whether or not it has a verified owner. Data is only retained for a certain period of time, however, before it is deleted.
