Design requirements and recommendations for Instagram feed ads

There are two different ad placements on Instagram (ads in feed and ads in stories). To ensure you're creating high-quality ads on Instagram, bear the following design recommendations and requirements in mind:

Ads in feed

Image size

The recommended image size for Instagram ads depends on which format you use:

Square

  • Minimum resolution (600 x 600 pixels)
  • Maximum resolution (1,936 x 1,936 pixels)

Landscape

  • Minimum resolution (600 x 315 pixels)
  • Maximum resolution (1,936 x 1,936 pixels)

Vertical

  • Minimum resolution (600 x 750 pixels)
  • Maximum resolution (1,936 x 1,936 pixels)

When you're creating your ad in ad creation, you can use Crop image to help ensure that your Instagram ad looks the way you want it to.

Video size

Your video's file size can be up to 4 GB max.

Caption length

The caption you use for your Instagram ad will appear below the image and may include up to 2,200 characters.

Aspect ratio

The aspect ratio for Instagram ads depends on the format.

  • Square - 1:1
  • Landscape - 1.91:1
  • Vertical - 4:5

Website URLs in captions

As a best practice, we recommend that you avoid using URLs in the text of your Instagram ad. URLs will not be clickable from the text field of your ad.
