Add a call-to-action button to a video ad

You can add a call-to-action button to a video ad and drive people to your website or app. A call-to-action button is available for ads running on Facebook, Instagram, Audience Network and Messenger.

Before you begin

  • If your marketing objective is Engagement, you can't add a call-to-action button to an existing post or event if it doesn't have a call-to-action button. To add a call-to-action button, you should create a new video ad instead.
  • When you add a Canvas to a video ad, you can't add a call-to-action button to the ad. Because Canvas is a mobile-optimised experience that opens when people see the ad in their feeds, a call-to-action button isn't available.
  • If you want to use the Donate button as your call to action, you'll need to first enable your Page for charitable donations.

Steps for adding a call-to-action button to a video ad

  1. Go to Ads Manager.
  2. Click + Create.
  3. Choose a marketing objective and click Continue.
  4. Choose the audience, placements, budget and schedule for the ad and click Continue.
  5. Select the Facebook Page and Instagram account (optional) representing the ad.
  6. Choose Single video or Slideshow.
  7. Upload a new video or choose an existing video for the ad.
  8. Scroll to the Creative/Links section and click the Call to action drop-down menu.

    Note: If your marketing objective is Brand Awareness, Reach or Video Views, select Add a website URL to see the Call to action drop-down menu.

  9. Select an option from the Call to action drop-down menu. You should see a preview of the call-to-action button on the ad.
  10. Click Confirm to finish the ad. When your ad starts running, people who see the ad can click or tap the call-to-action button.
