Set up deep links

Set up deep links that will take folks directly to the parts of your app

Think about where you’d like to land your users when they tap on one of your engagement ads. You don’t want to send everyone to the starting screen of your app. Work with your developer team to set up deep links to the important parts of your app. That way, your ads can lead users directly to the spot that can best meet their needs.

Tip

Google recommends using App Links for Android and Universal Links for iOS when enabling deep links for your app. These standards will make your app compatible with all Google products so that your app can take advantage of things like organic search, search ads, Android, and Google Now.

Example: Food delivery app

Suppose you’re marketing a food delivery app and your user searches on her smartphone for "pizza delivery." Your engagement ad can remind them of your app while also linking them directly to a screen featuring local pizzerias once they click to reopen your app.

Example: Gaming app

Suppose you’re trying to improve customer retention for a flying squirrel game app. You’ve identified a valuable group of lapsed paying users. Your ad can offer them bonus credits and deep link them to the store page of your game, where they can spend their credits on powerful speedups.

Tip

App Indexing lets Google crawl and index apps just like websites. Deep links to your Android app appear in the organic Google Search results so that users can go directly to the relevant content page in your app.

Tip

When you enter a deep link destination URL for your search app engagement ad, click “Test App URL” to test the link on a mobile device by scanning a QR code. Make sure that it opens up your app to the appropriate screen.
