Live stream and record your gameplay
Use the YouTube Gaming app to live stream and record your gameplay. Upload your recording to YouTube to engage with friends and grow your audience. Live stream your gameplay on-the-go without additional hardware and cable so you can directly engage with others while gaming. You can also record your voice or reactions as you play.
Available on Android 5.0 and 5.1.1+
Requirements: In order to use Mobile Capture, your device must be running Android version 5.0 or 5.1.1 and later. Android version 5.1 is not supported. More info on version updates can be found here. Mobile Capture is located within the YouTube Gaming app, which you can download from the Google Play Store.

Live stream your gameplay
- Open the YouTube Gaming app and sign in.
- If you are on a mobile phone, click on your avatar in the top right corner and select Go Live . If you are using a tablet, click on GO LIVE at the top of the app.
- After the welcome screen, select STREAM.
- Select your desired video quality setting. You can stream in 480p SD or 720p HD.
- Based on your network conditions, you may want to connect to a stronger Wi-Fi signal.
- Read and acknowledge the few tips:
- Your live stream is public.
- Remember: anything on your screen - notifications, calls, and passwords - will be recorded.
- The microphone captures game audio from the speaker, so turn up the sound. (Nearby sounds may also be recorded.)
- Select the app you’d like to stream and enter a title and description for your YouTube live stream.
- If you do not have a YouTube channel or your channel is not enabled for live streaming, you’ll be prompted to enable streaming. You must complete this process before you will be able to stream on YouTube.
- Creating a YouTube channel and enabling live streaming
- Select the Google account you’d like to use.
- If you already have a YouTube channel, select the YouTube channel you’d like to use. Otherwise, follow a simple flow to set up a brand new YouTube channel.
- To enable live streaming, follow a simple flow to verify your account and accept a Terms of Service.
- Once you’ve completed these steps, return to the YouTube Gaming app and restart your live stream.
- Optionally share your stream link across your favourite social networks
- Click START to launch your game. You’ll see a floating video bubble appear with live streaming settings.
- Tap the stream icon .
- After a 3-second countdown, your stream will begin.
The pulsing red record icon will indicate that you are live streaming.
While streaming, you can view your stream health by tapping on the floating bubble. If your network conditions are not strong enough to support live streaming, the status bar will warn you.
To stop streaming: Tap the floating video bubble, then the red stop icon .
Once you are finished streaming, a public archive of your stream will be saved to your channel. You can find it under Video Manager in YouTube’s Creator Studio.
Record your gameplay
- Open the YouTube Gaming app .
- If you are on a mobile phone, tap on your avatar in the top right corner and select Go Live . If you are using a tablet, click on GO LIVE at the top of the app.
- After the welcome screen, select RECORD.
- Select your desired video quality setting. You can record in 480p SD or 720p HD.
- Based on your device’s available storage space, we’ll show you the maximum video length that you can record.
- Read and acknowledge the few tips:
- Remember: anything on your screen - notifications, calls, and passwords - will be recorded.
- The microphone captures game audio from the speaker, so turn up the sound. (Nearby sounds may also be recorded.)
- Select the app you’d like to record and it’ll launch your game. You’ll see a floating video bubble appear with recording settings.
- Tap the record icon .
- After a 3-second countdown, your recording will begin.
The pulsing record icon indicates that you are recording.
To stop recording: Touch the floating video bubble, then the red stop icon .
Once you are finished recording, the video will save to your phone or tablet.
Upload your recording to YouTube
Once a recording has ended, you’ll be directed to edit and upload your video to YouTube immediately after gameplay.
Before sharing your recorded video online, make sure that you review it carefully and delete any private information that you don’t want shared on the internet. Your recording could include anything that appeared on your device’s screen or was picked up by your microphone during gameplay (for example, phone numbers, messages, or calendar reminders). Also, make sure you have the rights to share any content included in your video.
Change streaming or recording settings during gameplay
To change settings: During gameplay, touch the floating video bubble to show the settings icons.
- To stop recording, tap the stop icon .
- To turn your device’s camera on or off, tap the camera icon . Use your camera to record reactions with your front-facing camera as you play.
- To turn your device’s microphone on or off, tap the microphone icon . Use your microphone to record audio commentary over your gameplay.
To dismiss recording: Drag the floating video bubble into the center of the screen. Drop the video bubble over the “X” to dismiss your recording.
For your information
The pulsing record icon indicates that you are live streaming or recording.
Be aware that you are capturing your mobile screen. As a result, private information (your’s and/or others’) may be displayed in a live stream. Consider turning off notifications so that no personal messaging is displayed during this time. Generally on Android, you can adjust your notification settings by going to your device’s Settings menu and under Device select Sound & notification.
Make sure you have the rights to share or live stream any content included in your video.
If you receive a phone call while live streaming or recording, Mobile Capture will stop.

Live streaming is available through iOS ReplayKit on supported apps and devices running iOS version 10.2+.
