Use cards to poll your viewers

30/11/2019

Poll cards let your viewers participate in multiple-choice polls directly in your videos. You can have the card show at a specific time in the video and see the results in real time.

Voter system requirements

Viewers must be logged in to their YouTube account. Viewers who are logged out will be prompted to log in before they vote. Note: Flash is not supported for poll cards.

On mobile, viewers must use one of these YouTube app versions:

  • Android version 10.34 and up
  • iOS version 10.33 and up

Create a poll in your video

  1. Go to your Video Manager.
  2. For the video you want to add a poll to, click Edit.
  3. In the top tab bar, click Cards.
  4. Click Add card.
  5. Next to the Poll option, click Create.
  6. Add your poll's title and up to five poll choices.
  7. Create the card and adjust the start time for the card teaser in the timeline under the video.
  8. Click Create card.

You can go back and edit a poll card as long as votes haven't yet been submitted.

View poll results

After voting, viewers can see the breakdown of votes directly in the card. They are also able to remove their vote right after voting and these votes will not be registered.

Poll creators can see the distribution of votes in the cards editor and in YouTube Analytics. You can see the total number of responses, as well as the percent by answer, which automatically shows in the card editor view.

Cards editor

To see the number of votes and a real-time breakdown of the percentages, follow these steps:

  1. Go to your Video Manager.
  2. For the video that has the poll card, click Edit.
  3. In the top tab bar, click Cards.
  4. Next to the card, click the chart icon   .

YouTube Analytics

You can use the YouTube Analytics Cards report to see real-time voting percentages.

To see real-time voting results, follow these steps:

  1. Go to your channel's YouTube Analytics
  2. In the left-hand menu, click Cards.
  3. Next to the poll card, hover over the chart icon  .

Note: Performance metrics, like card impressions and clicks, are available within the standard delay of YouTube Analytics data and always refer to the selected time period. For example, if you create a card on a Monday, you can see Monday's performance data on Wednesday, while the poll results will already include data for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

Generally, voting results will always show all-time data, regardless of the selected time period for the Cards report. A card click is registered both for votes and for clicks from non-logged in viewers that are prompted to log in before voting. Therefore, you might see more clicks per shown card than expected.

  5. Click the delete icon  .

Important: Once you delete a card, you won’t be able to access the card and the votes will be lost. You'll still be able to see votes in YouTube Analytics.
