Use & manage donation cards
You can raise funds and awareness about causes close to your heart using YouTube's donation cards. Just add a donation card to your video and viewers will be able to make a donation directly to the U.S. nonprofit organization.
We're partnering with Network for Good, a U.S. nonprofit donor-advised fund. During the pilot period, YouTube covers the incurred processing fees, so all proceeds will go to the organization. Learn how your viewers donate using donation cards.
Add a donation card to your video
Before you start: Choose a nonprofit to support. You can choose any United States, IRS-validated 501(c)3 public nonprofit organization. Nonprofits are not endorsed by YouTube or Google. Read our donation card FAQs.
- On a computer signed in to YouTube, go to your Video Manager.
- Find the video you want to add cards to and select Edit. This can be a new video that you create specifically for the cause or a video that you've already uploaded.
- In the tab bar at the top, select Cards.
- Select Add card.
- Next to "Donation," click Create.
- Type the name of the nonprofit you want to support into the search box. Choose it from the list of available nonprofits and then click Create card. You may have to choose an image, first.
- Customize your card:
- Enter the title and teaser text.
- Click Change image if you’d like to choose another image from the category images.
- Click Create card.
Tips & troubleshooting for donation cards
Tips for successful cards
Cards add interactivity to your videos, but only work if viewers heed your call to action. Make sure to follow our tips for creating successful cards:
- Only have one card in the video so viewers aren't overwhelmed.
- Make sure your donation card is relevant to what's being discussed or happening in the video.
- Make sure to let viewers know to click on the information icon .
- Make your teaser text interesting and actionable. Use it to provide context for the donation card or cause. The longer the teaser, the bigger the click target for your viewers.
- Strategically place the teaser text based on what the video is showing. Make sure you place it before the point in the video where viewers drop off.
Troubleshoot "null" country settings
If you see "null" as your country value on your account, you may not be able to add a donation card. You need to make sure that your YouTube channel has a country set in your advanced settings:
- Sign in to YouTube.
- Go to Creator Studio by clicking your account icon > Creator Studio.
- In the left menu, click Channel > Advanced.
- Under your account icon, use the drop-down menu to select your Country.
- At the bottom of the page, click Save.
Once you've saved your channel's country setting, try adding a donation card.
