Message friends on YouTube

When you share a video on YouTube or receive a message from a YouTube friend, a private conversation is created where you can view and discuss the video. You can watch shared videos directly in your conversation.    

View & manage current conversations    

You can view shared videos and current conversations, share more videos, and manage group conversation participants. 

View your conversations

To find all of your existing conversations started in the YouTube app:
  1. Click on the Messages  icon on the top right of the page.
  2. Select the chat you’d like to see. 

Note: When you view a message, others in the chat will be able to see that you've viewed it. You'll also see when others have viewed a chat message you've sent — the note "Seen" or "Seen by " will show in the chat.
 

Share videos

  1. Go to the video you’d like to Share. 
  2. Under the video player, tap SHARE . 
    • Share by message on YouTube by selecting a friend. 
    • Share the video link by selecting an app or copying the link to the video.

View or add participants

  1. Click on the Messages  icon on the top right of the page.
  2. Select the conversation to which you’d like to add participants.
  3. Click Menu  > View participants or Add participants or click the title bar.

Delete or leave a conversation

  1. Click on the Messages  icon on the top right of the page. 
  2. Open a conversation.
  3. In the top right, click Menu .
  4. Select “Delete” or “Leave” to remove the chat from your list of conversations.

  2. Select MESSAGES.
  3. Select the chat you’d like to see.

  1. Go to the video you’d like to share. 

  2. Under the video player, tap SHARE.

Change group conversation name

Any member of the conversation can change the group conversation name. This option is available for chats with three or more participants:
  1. Go to the Inbox tab .
  2. Tap Messages.
  3. Open a conversation. 
  4. Tap Menu  > Edit conversation name.​

View video watch page

Open the YouTube app and go to an existing conversation.
  1. Tap the arrow Right arrow to open the video's watch page.
  2. You can access additional player controls, view related suggestions, and post or view video comments. 

Mute, leave, or delete a conversation

  1. Go to the Inbox tab .
  2. Tap Messages.
  3. Open a conversation.
  4. In the top right, tap the Menu icon .
  5. Tap an option to choose to:
    • Leave this conversation: When you leave a conversation, your existing posts will remain in the chat and you won’t be able to join again unless you’re invited. 
    • Mute notifications: Stop receiving notifications without leaving the chat.
    • Delete conversation: If you created a chat, you must delete the conversation to leave it. This will delete the conversation for all participants.
