About automated extensions

30/11/2019

Automated extensions can give you more robust ads and more chances to win new customers. When an automated extension is predicted to improve your ad’s performance, AdWords automatically creates and shows it below your ad. Most automated extensions are eligible to show with all ad types, but some only show on desktop and laptop computers.

View automated extensions

To see which automated extensions have been added to your ads, or to remove automated extensions from your ads, first you'll need to locate them. In the previous AdWords experience, you can view automated extensions by clicking the Ad extensions tab and selecting "Automated extensions report” from the drop-down "View" menu. If you'd like to edit your automated extensions, click on the Automated extensions options (advanced) link located beneath the table, then click Edit. In the new AdWords experience, click Ads & extensions in the page menu on the left, then select Automated extensions at the top of the page.

Types of automated extensions

Automated call extensions

When your website indicates that your business goals include getting people to call you, AdWords may set up automated call extensions. On mobile, people can click your extension to call your business. Learn more About call extensions.

Automated message extensions

When your website indicates that your business goals include getting people to message you or when you have used a mobile number to set up a call extension, AdWords may set up automated message extensions to direct messages to your business. Learn more About message extensions.

Dynamic sitelink extensions

Sitelink extensions help get people to the right place on your website. For example, if you run a restaurant, your sitelinks might include links with the following display text: Hours, Menu, Delivery. Learn more About dynamic sitelink extensions.

Example

Walter's Bakery for Dogs
Ad www.example.com

Dynamic structured snippet extensions

Structured snippets include additional descriptive text that helps people get a better sense of the range of products and services your business has to offer. Learn more About dynamic structured snippet extensions.

Example

ACME Electronics - Full Service Tech Shop
Ad www.example.com

Services: Tech Support, E-Waste Recycling, Computer Repair, Coding Class...

Automated location extensions

Location extensions can help people find your locations by showing your ads with your address, a map to your location, or the distance to your business. People can then click or tap your extension to get further details about your location on your location page, which includes the most relevant business information all in one place. Location extensions may also include a phone number or call button so that users can easily call your business. Learn more About location extensions.

Seller ratings extensions

Seller ratings show a combination of information and reviews next to your AdWords ads, letting people know which advertisers are highly rated for quality service. Learn more About seller ratings extensions.

Example

Sarah's Designer Shoe Store
Ad www.example.com

4.0 ★★★★ rating for sarah-shoes.com
Free Shipping & Returns on Large Selection of Brand Name Shoes.

Dynamic callout extensions

Dynamic callouts help people decide whether to visit your site by showing relevant information about the products and services offered on your site. If an advertiser’s landing page mentions potentially useful information like “25 years of experience,” “Book online,” and “Certified technicians,” that information could automatically show with the ad text as dynamic callouts. Learn more About dynamic callout extensions.

How they work

There's no cost when extensions show with your ads, but you're typically charged as usual for clicks on your ad, as well as for certain interactions that extensions provide. For example, you're charged when someone clicks on a call button from an automated call extension or a message button from an automated message extension. Exception: there's no charge for clicks on seller ratings extensions (but clicks on the ads themselves are charged as usual).

Extensions tend to boost ad performance, making your ads more likely to be clicked. AdWords charges no more than two clicks (per impression) on each ad and its extensions. To opt out of automated extensions, go to Remove extensions.

Automated extensions are compatible with campaigns and ad groups that also use manual extensions. We recommend that you use all manual extensions that fit your business. To learn more, head to About extensions.
