Channel released by an MCN

On January 16, 2018, we announced new eligibility requirements for the YouTube Partner Program. Previously, the requirement to join the YouTube Partner Program was 10,000 lifetime views. Now, once a channel reaches 4,000 watch hours in the previous 12 months and 1,000 subscribers it will be reviewed to join the program. Channels that are in an MCN and below this threshold will be released from the MCN.

Joining the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) is a requirement for all affiliate channels in multi-channel networks (MCNs). Channels that are in an MCN and below the YPP threshold will be released from the MCN.

When an MCNs releases a channel from their network, it can cause monetization status to change. Follow the instructions if this article if you’re released from an MCN.

Check your monetization status

When you’re released it’s important to check if your channel is enabled for monetization. You may be automatically linked to your previous content owner and automatically approved for the YouTube Partner Program.

If your channel is not enabled for monetization, take the following steps:

Apply to join the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) even if your channel was previously in YPP. Your channel will be reviewed to join once it meets the program eligibility threshold.
Link your channel to an active AdSense account and make sure you set up a form of payment. You need an AdSense account to get paid.
Make sure ads are on for the videos you want to monetize.
Confirm your upload defaults so every upload is automatically monetized according to your settings.

Note: When you meet the YouTube Partner Program eligibility threshold, do not create a new AdSense account if you have an existing account. Duplicate AdSense accounts are against AdSense policy.

Download historical revenue data

If you haven’t been released by an MCN yet, you can download your reports from YouTube Analytics. Once you’re released from your MCN, you will no longer see the revenue you earned while you were in the MCN. Other historical information like views and engagement metrics will still be visible in YouTube Analytics after your channel is released.
