Understand your pixel event data in Events Manager

30/11/2019

The Facebook pixel helps you measure the effectiveness of your advertising by understanding the actions that people take on your website as the result of your Facebook ads. Once you have added the Facebook pixel base code and event code to your website, you can see your pixel event data on the Pixel page. Learn more about the benefits of using a Facebook pixel.

Before getting started

High-level event metrics

On the Data sources tab, you can measure and optimise your ad campaigns that are leveraging your pixel event data. If you have more than one pixel, select the pixel that you'd like to view. See basic information on this page about your pixel, such as its status and last activity.

You can look at these sections to understand:

  • Events received: The total number of events received by your pixel.
  • Top events: This is how effectively your data has been matched to people on Facebook.
  • Activity: This graph shows the number of events measured per day for each of the last seven days that could be attributed to people who saw your ads. This helps you to understand recent behaviour of people who have recently visited your site, and quickly identify if there's an issue with how any of your events have been set up on your website.

Events

On the Facebook Pixels summary page, select your pixel or click Details for more detailed insights about your Facebook ad performance. See the descriptions below to learn about the key elements of a pixel detail page:

  1. Time frame: Adjust the time frame of your data by clicking the button and selecting an option from the drop-down.
  2. Events tab graph: On the Events tab, the graph shows the number and value of events received, matched events and attributed events. See how much traffic there's been on your website. Hover over points in the graph to see a breakdown of these metrics, or review the table. A dotted line means that the data hasn't been filled in for that day yet. Bear in mind that this counts raw pixel fires (every time your page loads), which is different from browser sessions. Learn more about discrepancies between third-party ad reporting tools and Facebook ads reporting.
  3. Events tab table: On the Events tab, the table shows the number and value of events received, matched events and attributed events.

Activity

Once you have selected your pixel, select Activity to see a list of all the types of actions that people took on your website that have been recently measured by your pixel. Select which event you'd like to view, such as PageView, and you can see the last 100 events that took place. Review each of the columns on this page to break down your data by event time, event category, device, parameters (like value or currency) and the referring URL. We'll tell you how much traffic you've received for each of these.

Note: This page is particularly useful if you need to troubleshoot your event setup and want to make sure that the event code on your website is working correctly.

Settings

Once you have selected your pixel, select Settings to understand to see your Facebook pixel's associated custom audiences and custom conversions, and how they're performing. You'll be able to see a list of all your custom audiences and custom conversions by volume, and create a new custom audience or custom conversion. When you set up an audience or a conversion with your desired characteristics, it will continually refresh as you upload data.
