Trim your videos

You can cut out the beginning, middle, or end of your video on a computer. You don't need to re-upload a video to trim it. The video's URL, view count, and comments will stay the same.

Note: If your video has over 100,000 views, you may not be able to save changes to it, except to Blur Faces. Instead, use the "Save as a new video" option to save your changes. This restriction does not apply to users who are in the YouTube Partner Program.

Open the video editor

Open the video editor to be able to trim or remove a section of your video.

  1. Sign in to YouTube Studio beta.
  2. From the left menu, select Videos.
  3. Click the title or thumbnail of the video you’d like to edit.
  4. From the left menu, select Editor.

Creator Studio Classic instructions

  1. Open the Video Manager.
  2. Select Edit next to the video you’d like to edit.
  3. Navigate to the Enhancements tab.

Trim the start or end of your video

  1. Select Trim. A blue box will appear in the editor.
  2. Click and drag the sides of the blue box until the box is covering the portion of the video you’d like to keep. Anything not in the box will be removed from the video.
  3. Select Preview to check your edits.
  4. Click Save.

Creator Studio Classic instructions

  1. Click the Enhancements tab > Trim.
  2. Use the blue bars to trim out the part you no longer want. The trimmed parts will turn grey.
  3. Click Done.
You can click Clear at any time to cancel your changes.

Take out a section of your video

  1. Select Trim. A blue box will appear in the editor.
  2. Click in the blue box at the beginning of the section you’d like to remove.
  3. Select Split.
  4. Click the white bar that appears, and drag it to the end of the section you’d like to remove.
  5. Select Preview to check your edits.
  6. Select Save.

Creator Studio Classic instructions

  1. Click the Enhancements tab > Trim.
  2. Go to the first frame you want to cut from and click Split. Click to the right of the part where you split, then drag the left blue bar to the part where you want to stop trimming.
  3. Click Done.

You can click Clear at any time to cancel your changes.

If you want to trim or split your video at a specific time, just enter it in the box next to the Trim button. Press the (X) above a section to undo a split for that section. You can click Clear all at any time to cancel your changes.
