Community and Comments

  • Stories section on watch page: We’ve added a Stories section on the watch page. Your Stories will appear here, as well as on the Stories tab. Learn more.
  • Community posts launched to more creators: Creators with over 1,000 subscribers now have access to Community posts. Use polls, GIFs, text, images, and video to engage with your audience. Learn more.

Live Streaming

  • DVR for ultra low latency streaming: You can now enable DVR when streaming at an ultra-low latency setting. Learn more about live streaming latency.

Policy and Copyright

  • Video Copyright Info page: We’ve launched a new page in YouTube Studio that shows information about copyright claims on your videos. You’ll see an at-a-glance summary of the impact of claims on a video, including any channel impact and territorial restrictions, more information about the specific content claimed in the video, and indication of which content is contributing to specific restrictions.

Video Management 

  • Removing Shows and Movies features: Starting January 15th, 2019, we’re removing the Shows playlist and movies features for ad supported content. Learn more.
  • Discontinuing annotations: We will stop showing existing annotations to viewers starting January 15, 2019. The ability to create annotations was discontinued May 2017. Learn more.
  • Discontinuing video credits: Video credits aren’t frequently used, so we’re discontinuing them after January 31, 2019 to focus on other features. Learn more.

YouTube Music

  • YouTube student memberships: Full-time students in United States who meet the eligibility requirement are now able to sign-up for a discounted YouTube Premium or YouTube Music Premium membership

YouTube Studio beta

  • Subtitle and caption files: You can now upload and download subtitle and closed caption files in YouTube Studio beta. Learn more.

November 2018

  • Transcriptions page: You can now create, edit, and review translations of your video’s title and description by going to the Transcriptions page in YouTube Studio beta.
  • Edge browser support: You can now use YouTube Studio beta using Microsoft Edge.

October 2018

  • Reporting currency settings: You can now select your default currency for reports in YouTube Studio beta. Learn more
  • Video groups in YouTube Studio beta: You can now filter analytics in YouTube Studio beta by specific groups of videos. Learn more.
  • Create playlists from video details: When adding a video to a playlist under Videos > Details in YouTube Studio beta, you can now choose to create a new playlist.

September 2018

  • Default experience: New channels will default to Youtube Studio Beta as their home.

August 2018

  • Editor: The new editor, with trimming and end screens, is available to all channels. Cards, blurring, and more are on the way. Learn more
  • Tags: We've added a character limit to tags on the video Details tab.
  • Navigation: Instead of going to Analytics when you click on your published video, we now take you to the Details tab, which is more in line with the Classic navigation experience. If you want to see your analytics, click on your video and then the Analytics tab in the left-hand menu.
  • Search: We've added a play button to video search results that takes you to your live video.
  • Likes counter: We heard your feedback, and we’ve added a “Likes” counter on the Videos tab.
  • Scheduling: It is now easier to see if and when a video is scheduled right from the Videos tab.
  • Bulk actions: You can now perform bulk actions on your videos. Learn more

  • Location tagging: You can now tag your video recording location in YouTube Studio beta. This will help viewers find your content when looking for that location. Learn more
  • Playlist options for videos: Creators can now add videos to a playlist from the Details tab.

June 2018

  • Defaulting channels: We’ve started making YouTube Studio beta the default for some channels. Creators can change their preference if they want here.
  • Video at a glance: A new card on the YouTube Studio beta dashboard compares your latest video's performance to previous videos. This will help you get a quick idea of how your video is performing.
  • Youtube Studio beta Dashboard: A new Dashboard launched to creators with English language settings.

Analytics

November 2018

  • Deeper data in YouTube Studio beta: We’ve added new dimensions, and levels of detail to reports in YouTube Studio Analytics. You can select dimensions like geography in key metrics cards. You can also see additional levels of detail, such as traffic sources included in “Browse features”.
  • Comparisons in YouTube Studio beta: You can now compare performance of your most recently uploaded video to your last upload or your typical performance. You'll see the comparison automatically on all key metrics cards in YouTube Analytics.

  • Transaction revenue data: Transactional revenue data now has its own card in YouTube Analytics. It shows a breakdown of revenue sources like Channel Memberships and Super Chat.
  • Exporting data in YouTube Studio beta: You can now export channel and video data from YouTube Studio beta. Learn more
  • Since Published date range: YouTube Studio beta now has a “Since Published” date range that allows you to see your video’s performance from the moment you published. We’ll soon add a comparison to previous videos using the same time since publish.

August 2018

  • Insights: We’re expanding a new feature called “Insights” to all English UI channels in YouTube Studio beta. This feature lets you know how quickly your channel is growing, and which videos help gain more subscribers. More to come!

June 2018

  • Custom Date ranges: Custom date ranges for Analytics are back in YouTube Studio beta to help you analyze data.
  • Latest activity card: The latest activity card in YouTube Studio beta (formerly known as the Real Time report) now has a toggle between 60 minutes and 48 hours, and shows the total views for that range.
  • [Experiment] Insights in Analytics: We’re introducing Insights to some creators in YouTube Studio beta. Insights are short, easy-to-read summaries of data that is important to you (i.e. how your channel has grown, or what content is contributing to subscriber growth).

  • Webcam scheduling: You can now schedule a webcam livestream.This allows creators to plan in advance and manage multiple live streams with webcam.

  • [Experiment] Mentions in posts: We’re experimenting with a new feature that allows you to mention other channels in Community posts. When viewers click on the mention in the post, they will be directed to the that channel page.

  • Comment mentions:  Usernames will now automatically appear in your reply to a comment reply. This feature is currently available for some Android & web users.

June 2018

  • Private messaging: The ability to send, receive or read private messages in Creator Studio is no longer available. All private messages have therefore been deleted. You’ll still have these options for communicating with YouTube users.
  • Improved accuracy of like & dislike counts: We’re making a system update to better catch spam in likes and dislikes across YouTube. Learn more here.    
  • Comment moderation: You can now hold potentially inappropriate comments, as identified by an algorithm, for your review. Learn more

  • Subscriptions shelf on home: To improve discovery of subscriber content, we’re adding a subscriptions shelf to the home page for all viewers. This is initially on desktop only.

August 2018

  • Larger avatars on mobile subs feed: We’ve increased the size of channel avatars on the mobile subs feed.
  • Gaming app subscriptions merge: In March, we started merging channel subscriptions between the YouTube Gaming app and the main YouTube app. We quickly heard feedback that this process was confusing, so now, you can decide whether or not to merge your subscriptions. Learn more
  • [Experiment] Subscriptions shelf on home: In an effort to improve discovery of subscriber content, we’re experimenting with adding a subscriptions shelf to the home page for a small group of creators.

  • [Experiment] Explore tab on Android: In July, we began testing a new "Explore" tab on some iPhones. We’ve received positive feedback, and are expanding this experiment to some Android users.

August 2018

  • Hashtag expansion to iOS and mobile web: We’re making hashtags more prominent on iOS and mobile web by hyperlinking hashtags in and above video titles.
  • [Experiment] Explore tab expansion: The “Explore” tab experiment that will expand to more users.

  • Information panel providing topical content: Viewers may see information from third parties, including Encyclopedia Britannica and Wikipedia, alongside videos on a small number of well-established historical and scientific topics that have often been subject to misinformation online, such as the moon landing.   • [Experiment] Explore tab: We’ve started testing a new experiment by adding an “Explore” tab on the bottom navigation of the YouTube app on iPhone. This will replace the Trending tab, though the content of the current trending tab will be included in the Explore tab as well.

  • Flexible watch: Black bars for non-16:9 videos are no longer needed! YouTube’s video player now auto adjusts based off the video’s aspect ratio to optimize the viewing experience on iOS, Android, and Desktop. When publishing your videos to YouTube, make sure to no longer burn in those black bars

  • YouTube Premium: We’ve renamed YouTube Red to YouTube Premium, and made it available in many more countries. Learn more.

  • Content ID: We have improved our Content ID matching technology to better identify your content in short segments and spherical videos. Learn more.

  • Music in this video: Information about the music in a video will now be displayed underneath the player on many videos after they have been claimed by Content ID. In some cases, this information will link back to the song’s official video. Learn more.
  • Ownership transfers: You can now “request ownership” on assets with ownership conflicts. Requests surface in a new Ownership transfers queue, and the other owner can accept the request, reject the request, or allow the request to expire. Learn more.
