If you make Chrome your default browser, any links you click will open automatically in Chrome.

 

Set Chrome as your default web browser

If you don't have Google Chrome on your computer yet, first download and install Chrome.

Windows 10

  1. On your computer, click the Start menu Start menu.
  2. Click Settings Settings.
  3. Open your default apps:
    • Original version: Click System and then Default apps.
    • Creators Update: Click Apps and then Default apps.
  4. At the bottom, under "Web browser," click your current browser (typically Microsoft Edge).
  5. In the "Choose an app" window, click Google Chrome.

To easily open Chrome later, add a shortcut to your taskbar:

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. In the Windows taskbar at the bottom, right-click on Chrome.
  3. Click Pin to taskbar.

Setting up Chrome on Windows 10

Windows 8 and below

  1. On your computer, click the Start menu Start menu.
  2. Click Control Panel.
  3. Click Programs and then Default Programs and then Set your default programs.
  4. On the left, select Google Chrome.
  5. Click Set this program as default.
  6. Click OK.

Mac

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. In the top right, click More More.
  3. Click Settings.
  4. In the "Default browser" section, click Make default.
    • If you don't see the button, Google Chrome is already your default browser.

  2. Tap Apps & notifications.
  3. At the bottom, tap Advanced.
  4. Tap Default apps.

You can't make Chrome your default browser, but you can add it to your dock.

Add Chrome to your dock

To easily open Chrome later, add the app to your dock: 

  1. To free up space on your dock, touch & hold on an app on the dock.
  2. Drag the app up, and release it on your home screen.
  3. Touch & hold the Chrome app Chrome
  4. Drag the Chrome app down, and release it on your dock.
  5. Press the Home button.
