Avoid using out-of-stock products in your catalogue

30/11/2019
The following information only applies to catalogues that support products.

Whenever a product goes out of stock in your inventory, mark the product as "out of stock" in your data feed. After a product is marked as "out of stock" in your data feed, Facebook automatically stops serving ads that show the product.

Mark your products as "out of stock"

When you create your data feed file, include the column name availability and type "out of stock" as the value in this column for any products that are out of stock so that you don't run ads for these products.

If you've already uploaded your data feed file and want to change some product information (such as inventory or pricing) for some of the items you've uploaded, you can choose to update your feed without uploading a whole new data feed.

You won't need to include all the fields usually required to upload a catalogue. Instead, just make sure that your data feed file has the required column name and any of the other columns that you need to update. For example, to update price and availability of a subset of items in the feed, you can upload a feed file with the following columns for those products:

  • id
  • price
  • availability

To update your product availability and pricing:

  1. Go to Catalogue Manager.
  2. Click Product feeds.
  3. Click Settings.
  4. Scroll to the Single upload section.
  5. Select Via file upload to upload your changes from a file, or click Via URL if the file is hosted on a website.
  6. Click Replace.

Automatically update your product availability

The easiest way to keep your data feed updated is to schedule uploads from a location that hosts your data feed. This sets up automatic uploads so that your data feed's product information (such as availability) is regularly updated. Learn more about updating data feeds on a schedule.
