About organic leads

30/11/2019

Organic leads are generated when someone sees a lead ad and then tags a friend or shares the ad's permalink with a friend, and their friend submits a lead. You'll only receive organic leads if you selected the Sharing > Open option in the Settings section of your instant form. If you've chosen to retrieve organic leads, they'll be available in your CSV download or through the API.

Note: If you don't want to receive organic leads, you'll need to make sure that you've selected Sharing > Restricted in the Settings section of your instant form.

Bear in mind that:

  • Lead ads will only include a Share button if you've chosen to receive organic leads.
  • The count shown in the Results column in Ads Manager doesn't include organic leads, so you may see more leads in your CSV download than in your reports. The cost-per-lead metric in Ads Manager isn't affected by organic leads.
  • When an advertiser tests their ad and submits a lead, that lead will appear in the CSV file they download. However, that lead won't be counted in the Results column in Ads Manager. Bear in mind that setting your sharing settings to restricted won't block these leads from appearing in your CSV download.

You can see whether your instant forms are set to Open or Restricted by going to your Page's publishing tools, selecting Forms library and viewing the status under the Sharing column in the table.
