Set up template URLs for dynamic ads for travel (flights)

30/11/2019

If you're advertising flight inventory, you can create a template URL at the ad level in ad creation. The template URL allows you to create deep links to the most relevant landing page for people who click on your ads. For example, your template URL can capture the origin and destination airports along with departure and return dates that a person previously searched for when they were browsing your site.

Create a template URL for your desktop ads:

  1. Go to ad creation.
  2. Select Product Catalogue Sales as your objective.
  3. Fill in the details of your ad set.
  4. In the Ad section of ad creation, look for the section labelled Deep link on desktop.
  5. Enter the base URL that you'd like people to go to when they click on your ad (e.g. http://www.jasperair.com/flight-search/results)
  6. Click the + icon to select any template tags that you'd like to use in your URL. For example, let's say you'd like to create a URL for customers who've searched for round-trip flights from SFO to JFK for certain dates. Within this URL, you'd use the following template tags: flight.origin_airport, flight.destination_airport, trip.departing_departure_date, trip.returning_departure_date. Your URL might look something like this: http://www.jasperair.com/flight-search/results/origin=SFO&dest=JFK&d=2017-03-01&r=2017-03-05. Bear in mind that the URL standard used on your website may be different from the example above. Use the URL standard for your site and insert template tags where applicable.

If you have a mobile app, you'll want to create a template URL for mobile as well.

Create a template URL for your mobile ads:

  1. In the Ad section of ad creation, find the Mobile app section. Click Choose app and select the app that you'd like to use for your ad.
  2. Set your app link destination preferences. The app link destination will allow you to control where a person is sent if they already have your app installed and where a person is sent if they don't have your app installed.
  3. Next, find the Deep link for mobile section. There are several mobile options including Android, IOS and Windows. Complete the fields applicable to your mobile app. Enter in the URL that you'd like people to go to when they click on your ad.
  4. Click the + icon to select any template tags that you'd like to use in your URL. See the example above in step six for what this might look like.
