Set up a Business Manager for catalogues

30/11/2019

If you manage multiple catalogues from different businesses, or want to grant agencies access to your catalogue, set up a Business Manager for the catalogues. Business Manager is a free Facebook tool to organise and manage your business. With Business Manager, you can add people to your business and manage access to your catalogue using various permissions. If you're an agency representing a business, they can add you to their Business Manager so that you can run ads for them under their account.

Note: While you can use Business Manager to create catalogues or add items to existing catalogues, it's recommended that you use Catalogue Manager for these tasks. Catalogue Manager provides a more comprehensive overview of the catalogues that you own.

Create a Business Manager

  1. Go to Business Manager overview.
  2. Click Create Account.
  3. Enter your business name.
  4. Enter your business email address.

Note: Don't enter your personal email account as you want to keep your private and professional accounts separate.
  5. You'll be redirected to your newly created Business Manager.

In Business Manager, you can control access to any catalogs you manage, such as adding new people or partners to your catalog or adjusting the level of access they have to your catalog.

To Manage Catalogs in Business Manager

  1. Go to Business Manager Settings.
  2. Select your account.
  3. Click Data Sources.
  4. Click Catalogs.
  5. Select how you want to manage your catalog:

    • + Add: Create a new catalog, or request access to an existing catalog. When you create a new catalog, you'll choose the catalog name and type of catalog before going to Catalog Manager to complete the process.
    • Add People: Add people already in your Business Manager to your catalog and assign a role to them.
    • Assign Partner: Add another business to your catalog that currently isn't in your Business Manager. To do this, you select their role in your catalog and then generate a link you can share with them. When they access this link, they're able to access your catalog. If they don't have a Business Manager, they'll need to create one.
    • Add Items: Add items in your inventory to the selected catalog. When you select this button, you'll be taken to Catalog Manager to complete the process.
    • Associate Sources: Associate a Facebook pixel and/or app to your catalog. This is recommended if you want to use your catalog for retargeting ads.

Within Business Manager, you can assign different roles to your catalog and control the level of access people or partners in your business have with the catalog. The roles you assign allow you or anyone else in your Business Manager account to do things like view catalogs or create product sets.

  • Catalog admin: A catalog admin can add, update or delete items in a catalog and change catalog settings. They can also create and edit product sets in a catalog to run campaigns, and assign the catalog admin and catalog advertiser roles to other people in your Business Manager account.
  • Catalog advertiser: A catalog advertiser can create and edit product sets in a catalog to run campaigns, but they can't modify items in the catalog or change catalog settings. A catalog advertiser can only assign the catalog advertiser role to other people in your Business Manager account.

If you're an agency that needs to use a catalog on behalf of another business, you can request access to the product catalog.

  1. Open Business Manager Settings.
  2. Select your account.
  3. Click Data Sources.
  4. Click Catalogs.
  5. Click + Add, and choose Request Access to a Catalog.
  6. Click Add Page to add an existing Page, or Create Page to create a new Page. Your business needs a primary Page to request access to Pages, ad accounts and other assets that belong to another business. They will verify your business through your primary Page. Your primary Page should be the Facebook Page that best represents the business you work for.
  7. Follow the instructions on the screen to request access to the catalog.

You'll now have access to the catalog in Business Manager.
