Troubleshoot video ad uploads

30/11/2019

When you create a video ad, you upload a video file. Video files are typically large and make take a few minutes to upload. If you're unable to upload a video, or you receive an error message during the upload, try these troubleshooting tips:

  • Check that the device you're using has a strong network connection. If it's taking longer than usual to upload the video, you may need to try another device or contact your service provider if the issue continues.
  • Download the latest version of your browser.
  • Upload a video in a supported file format. In general, it's recommended to use videos in the MP4, MOV or GIF file format. Your video software (e.g. Final Cut, Avid, iMovie) should have information on how to export your video to a supported file format.
  • Make sure that your video meets the specifications required for uploads. In general, videos should have a minimum resolution of 600 px and be no larger than 4 GB. For video length, your video can be up to 240 minutes max for Facebook, 5-15 seconds for in-stream video and up to 15 seconds for stories that run on Facebook or Instagram.
  • Crop your videos to specific aspect ratios depending on where you want to place them: 16:9 (landscape), 1:1 (square), 4:5 (vertical), 2:3 (vertical) or 9:16 (full portrait/vertical). Check the Video aspect ratio guide for recommendations on aspect ratios by video ad format.

Note: Trying to upload the same video multiple times won't speed up the process. If you'd like to continue using the Internet while the video is uploading, you can open another browser window.
