About rewarded video for mobile app ads

Rewarded video is an ad placement that lets you show full-screen videos to people who choose to watch them in exchange for a reward within an app, such as currency or a special object. When you choose the rewarded video placement, your video ads will be seen in apps across the Audience Network.

Note: To use the rewarded video placement, you must choose either the App Installs objective or the Conversions objective in Ads Manager. Rewarded video is only available for ads with video creative.

Context

Rewarded video is a great way to target the people who are most likely to engage with your App Install video ads within a rewarded experience of their choice. Facebook research found that people seeing rewarded video ads are 23% more likely to buy or use the product being advertised (vs non-choice based advertising). Rewarded video ads also typically have a lower CPI than the same video ads that run on the Facebook feed alone, so they provide extra value at a lower cost per impression.

Example

Say someone is playing a car racing game inside an app that is part of the Audience Network, and they crash and lose the race. With rewarded video, they can be prompted to either take the loss or view your short video ad in exchange for extra bonus points or time on the race track. If they choose to watch the video, they will receive the reward automatically after watching the entire video. They cannot skip the video after choosing to watch it. Those who view your ad under these circumstances choose to, so they are more likely to have a positive experience with your video.
