Create ads that run in Stories on Facebook

30/11/2019

Like Instagram Stories, you can create ads that run in Facebook Stories. Facebook Stories is a full-screen creative format that allows people to view and share moments via photos and videos that disappear (unless saved) after 24 hours. By default, a photo shows for 6 seconds and a video for up to 15 seconds in Facebook Stories. You can use Ads Manager or the API to create ads in Facebook Stories.

Before you begin

  • You can't select Facebook Stories as a stand-alone placement when you create an ad. However, Facebook Stories is included as a placement when you select Automatic Placements and use an objective that supports Facebook Stories.
  • Make sure that your images or videos meet the minimum specifications needed for ads in Facebook Stories. If your images or videos don't meet the specifications, you may have trouble with your ad's delivery.

Create an ad

To create an ad that runs in Facebook Stories:

  1. Go to Ads Manager.
  2. Click + Create.
  3. Choose an objective that supports ads in Facebook Stories: Reach, Traffic, App installs, Video views, Brand Awareness, Lead Generation or Conversions.
  4. Click Continue.
  5. Choose the audience for the ad.
  6. Facebook Stories selected automatically in the Placements section. To view all of your placements, select Edit Placements.
  7. Click Continue.
  8. Choose the Facebook Page and Instagram account (optional) that represents your business.
  9. Choose Single image or Single video as the ad format.
  10. Add any images or videos to your ad and finish adding any remaining details. Make sure that your images or videos meet the minimum aspect ratio and length requirements.

Preview the ad

You can preview your ad in multiple ways:

  • When you're creating the ad: In Ads Manager, you'll see a preview of the ad as you create it.
  • Once you've created the ad: In Ads Manager, click Ads and locate your ad. Click to tick the box next to the ad and select Preview.

Measure results

You can view the results of your ads in Ads Manager. From here, you can see insights on the performance of your ad in Facebook Stories, including reach, impressions and video metrics just like you would for other video posts. You can also create Custom Audiences from people who've seen your ads in their stories.
