Apply block lists

30/11/2019
Block list features are being rolled out and are subject to availability. You may not see them.

Now that you've created your block list, it needs to be applied to your ad accounts to start working. Then when you create a campaign in Ads Manager, you'll see your block list automatically applied to your ad accounts at the ad set level, ready to work on your ad.

You can choose to apply the block list to all ad accounts (i.e. for your whole business) or selected ad accounts. For example, you might work for an organisation with two ad accounts and want to block different URLs for each ad account. If so, you could create two block lists, one to apply to each ad account. However, if you want one block list to apply to both ad accounts, apply it to all of your ad accounts (i.e. the whole business).

Apply a block list in Business Manager: Method 1

  1. Open Business Manager.
  2. Click in the top left to open the drop-down menu.
  3. Click Block lists, under Assets, if you can.

If you can't see that option in the drop-down menu, use Method 2 (below).

  4. Find your block list, which should now be listed, and click on the right.
  5. Choose Apply or Remove.
  6. Choose:
    • Apply to all ad accounts to apply the block list to all of the ad accounts in your business. You won't see this option if you're not a Business Manager admin.
    • Select ad accounts to apply the block list to chosen ad accounts by ticking or unticking the boxes in the list.
    • Don't apply to ad accounts now to remove the block list from any ad accounts that you applied it to.
  7. Click Save.

Apply a block list in Business Manager: Method 2

  1. Open Business Manager.
  2. Click in the top left to open the drop-down menu.
  3. Choose Business settings.
  4. Click Block lists from the left navigation, under Brand safety.
  5. Select your block list, which should now be listed in the column on the left. You can toggle Apply to all ad accounts, or only the ad accounts of your choice in your list.

You can also toggle Assign ad accounts if you want the block list available to apply in Ads Manager, but don't want it to apply automatically.

Apply a block list in Ads Manager:

  1. Go to Ads Manager.
  2. Choose your objective, name your campaign and add your audience details.
  3. In the Placements section, select Edit placements.
  4. Check that the block lists you applied are listed in the Exclude content and publishers section. The means that the block list will apply to this campaign automatically. (If you find the wrong block list, change your Business Manager settings.)

Use Apply block list if you created a block list but hadn't applied it to the ad account yet. This is a useful feature for block lists that you want to apply to this particular ad, but not all of your ads.

  5. Add your budget, schedule and creative, then Publish.
