Create a mobile app engagement campaign

If you want more people to engage with your app after installing it, try running a mobile app engagement ad campaign. Mobile app engagement ads target people on mobile devices who have already installed your app in order to get them to open your app or take a specific action within your app, such as a purchase or achieving a new level in a game.

There are two types of app engagement ads that you can run:

  • App ads through the Traffic objective: When you create an app ad using the Traffic objective, your ads will be optimised to reach people who have already downloaded your app and who are most likely to open your app. This objective is useful when your primary business goal is to get more people to open your app. For example, if you have a news app and you want to run ads to get more people to open the app and read news on that app.
  • App ads through the Conversions objective:

Steps to creating a mobile app engagement campaign:

  1. Step 1: Go to Ads Manager and select Create Ad.
  2. Step 2: If you want to get more people to open your app, select the Traffic objective. If you want people to take a specific action in your app, such as make a purchase or achieve a new level in a game, select the Conversions objective. Once you've selected your objective, then click Continue.
  3. Step 3: Add the ad set level and select Use a specific event source.
  4. Step 4: Select App
  5. Step 5: From the drop-down menu, select which app you'd like to run ads for.

    If your app does not appear in the drop-down, it's probably because it hasn't been properly set up on the Facebook for Developers site.

  6. Step 6: Select the targeting settings you want for your ads, including the mobile platforms on which you want your ads to be seen.

  7. Step 7: Select how much you want to spend and set up your budget, then click Continue
  8. Step 8: Choose your ad format (such as a video ad or carousel ad) and then add details such as website links and text.
  9. Select Place order.

Once you complete these steps, your ad campaign will be submitted for review. Once it passes review, your campaign should start running according to the schedule you set. After your campaign begins, you can start measuring your app ad performance. Learn more about measuring your results.
