Create a Search Network app engagement campaign

This article explains how to create a “Search Network only - Mobile app engagement” campaign to show ads to your current app users on the Google Search Network, including Google Play.

Before you begin

Search Network app engagement campaigns are only available for Android apps. You can make finding your existing app users even easier by linking to your Google Play Developer Console.

How to create your campaign

  1. Sign in to your Google Ads account at https://ads.google.com.
  2. On the "Campaigns" tab, click the + Campaign drop-down menu, and select Search Network only.
  3. Choose the campaign type Mobile app engagement — Ads that encourage actions within your mobile app.
  4. Select the app you’d like to promote from the drop-down menu, or click “Add a new app...” to enter a new one.
  5. Your "Bid Strategy" will be "Maximize clicks".
  6. Enter your budget and select any other settings you'd like for your campaign. Click Save and continue.

Create your ad group

  1. On the ad group page, enter the name of the ad group and your default bid.
  2. Create your ads. You’ll need to enter description text for your ad.
  3. If you app is formatted only for smaller screens, check the box next to Exclude tablets to only run ads on mobile phones.
  4. Enter your app deep link by specifying the scheme and host and path.
  5. Enter keywords for your app engagement ads, or search for ideas to generate keywords for your app. Keywords for “Mobile app engagement” campaigns are optimized for targeting app-specific searches
  6. Click Save and continue.
  7. If you’ve already set up conversion tracking for your campaign, it should appear under “Conversion tracking”. If not, you can edit your conversion settings by clicking Yes, set up conversion tracking.
  8. Click Finish.
