Associate an event data source to a catalogue

30/11/2019

If you want to create retargeting ads (such as dynamic ads), you should associate an event data source – a Facebook pixel and/or an app – to your catalogue. Event data sources are tools that allow you to track actions on your website or in your app, such as items viewed or items added to basket. Associating an event data source to your catalogue allows you to build a retargeting audience of people in items in your inventory. You can then track these interactions from the Event data sources page in Catalogue Manager.

Before you begin

If you're using Business Manager and want to associate a pixel with your catalogue, make sure that you have the correct roles. If you don't assign the correct roles, you may not be able to see the pixel when you try to associate it with your catalogue. In Business Manager, you can assign roles for each aspect of your business to control who can access and make changes to your ad account. Here are the roles you need to have to associate a pixel with your catalogue:

  • Pixel analyst: A pixel analyst can view the pixel in a catalogue.
  • Catalogue admin: A catalogue admin can add, update or delete items in a catalogue and change catalogue settings. They can also create and edit product sets in a catalogue to run campaigns, and assign the catalogue admin and catalogue advertiser roles to other people in your Business Manager account.
You may also want to check that a pixel has been assigned or shared with the Business Manager account, especially if you've been invited by another business. Learn more about the Business Manager roles available for catalogue.
