Reach and frequency troubleshooting guide

30/11/2019

This guide is for the reach and frequency buying tool, which is gradually being rolled out to qualifying ad accounts only and may not be available to you at this time. If you are not familiar with the reach and frequency buying tool, learn more about troubleshooting other types of Facebook ads.

Troubleshooting tips to help solve common issues with the reach and frequency buying tool:

Cancelling

  • I can't pause my ad set: If your campaign is under-delivering, you won't be able to pause your ad set. If you want to cancel your campaign, you'll need to delete it at the campaign or ad set level. Learn more about cancelling your reach and frequency campaign.
  • I cancelled my campaign after it began running. Will I still be charged?: You'll only be charged for ads that were delivered up to the point when you cancelled your campaign. More help with billing and payments.

Ad creative

  • I can't delete my ad: When a reach and frequency campaign has started being delivered, one ad will always need to be running. If you only have one ad in your ad set, you won't be able to delete it. To delete your ad, add a second ad to your ad set and delete the first ad. Learn more about changing your creative.
  • I can't add video or Canvas ads to my campaign: In your ad set, go to Placements > Ad formats and tick the boxes next to Video and/or Canvas. Update your order to confirm your changes.
  • I cancelled my campaign but it's still appearing: After you delete your campaign in Ads Manager, click Review changes to confirm the cancellation of your campaign. More help with troubleshooting.

Delivery

  • My campaign isn't being delivered: Check that you've added your ad creative to your campaign.
  • My campaign isn't being delivered evenly: Campaigns will mostly be delivered at the start of your frequency interval. For example, if your frequency is two impressions every six days, most of the delivery is likely to occur in the first three days to increase the chances of showing the same people a second impression during the last three days.
  • My campaign is under-delivering: Historically, 97% of Facebook reach and frequency campaigns have delivered within 5% of predicted reach and impressions. In rare cases, the system has to bid higher than expected for each impression. This can result in the campaign delivering fewer ads as more of the campaign budget is spent on the cost per impression (CPM).

Campaign dates

  • An error message says that the end date of my campaign is invalid due to my brand-lift study: Your campaign's start and end dates need to be either within or completely outside the brand-lift study's dates. You're likely to see this message if you edit the date of your reach and frequency campaign to be before the lift study begins or after the lift study ends. To run your campaign for the dates you want, edit the schedule of your brand-lift study or cancel it. Learn more about editing or cancelling brand lift studies.
  • I can't book the dates that I'd like: You can book dates up to six months in advance for a campaign length of up to 90 days.

Targeting

  • I can't use the targeting that I want: Website Custom Audiences, fan or video engagement-exclusion targeting, friends of connections targeting and operating system-specific targeting aren't available with reach and frequency buying. Targeting must also be at the country level. To target more than one country, set up multiple ad sets. For local targeting, use the Local Awareness objective.

Technical problems

  • The reach and frequency tool isn't working: Make sure that you're using Chrome when using the reach and frequency tool as it's optimised for this browser only.
