Troubleshoot asset customisation for placements

30/11/2019

Are there objectives that I can't use?

Customisation is currently not available for the following objectives:

  • Engagement
  • Lead Generation
  • Catalogue Sales
  • Store Visits

Reach and frequency buying is available.

Are there promoted objects that I can't use?

Customisation is currently not available for the following promoted objects:

  • App (conversions for app events)
  • Product catalogue
  • Offer

Can I customise my ad text by placement?

No. You can only customise a single image or single video.

Can I vary formats within an ad set? For example, use a video for Audience Network rewarded video and an image for Instagram feed in the same ad set?

No, not at the moment.

It also isn't possible to vary ads by device type. For example, to use one asset for mobile and a different asset for desktop.

Which aspect ratios do you recommend across placements?

We recommend 4:5 for feed, 9:16 for Stories, 16:9 for in-stream and 1.91:1 for single image ads on Messenger. These crops allow you to cover as much of people's mobile screens as possible, capturing attention. Remember that most people hold their phone vertically. Is the customisation tool available for all ad formats?

You cannot use CTA buttons that require values (Call Now, Get Directions etc.).

Customisation is not available for the following formats:

  • Canvas
  • Page posts
  • Carousel
  • Collection
You won't be able to use dynamic language optimisation, branded content and Instagram comments moderation.

Can I go back and customise creative in an ad that I already published?

Unfortunately not.

Can I use asset customisation with "automatic placements" or "dynamic creative"?

No.

You can only use asset customisation when you select Edit placements at the ad level and then click Select all placements that support asset customisation. When you select this option, all of the eligible placements will be added automatically. You can then untick the box next to any placements that you don't want to include.

To customise your ad creative for non-eligible placements you will need to create another ad set.

These placements are not supported:

  • Facebook right column (support being rolled out gradually)
  • Facebook Instant Articles (support being rolled out gradually)
  • Facebook Marketplace (support being rolled out gradually)
  • Connected TV device platform
  • Rewarded video
  • Messenger Stories

Why can I only see Instagram asset customisation?

You should see options to customise for several placements, depending on your objective and the support rolled out to you:

If you only see Instagram, you might be seeing an old version of the placement asset customisation feature.

Here are ways to fix it:

  • Placements: did you only select Instagram, or placements that don't support placement asset customisation? If so, change your settings in Placements at the ad set level. An easy way to do this is to choose Edit placements, then Select all placements that support asset customisation.
