Global Pages is a framework which enables brands and businesses to provide localized versions of their content for their customers all over the world. With Global Pages, you can maintain one universal brand name, total fan count, vanity URL, and global insights across your entire fan base.

Overview

This feature is gradually being rolled out and may not be available to you at this time.

Global Pages allow advertisers to provide localised versions of their content for their customers all over the world, but with one universal brand name, total fan count and vanity URL, and with global insights across their entire fan base.

For example, you can advertise unique content that's meaningful for an audience in one location, and advertise different content that's just as relevant for an audience in another location.

How it works

There are three types of Pages in the Global Pages structure:

  • Market Pages: You can have as many market Pages as you want. You can customise who gets redirected to which Page according to where they live and which language they speak.
  • Default Page: This is the default page where a fan will be redirected to if they do not meet any of the criteria you set for your market Pages. This Page also acts as the main username for your Page structure (e.g. www. facebook.com/brand). When people navigate to the default Page's web address, they'll then be redirected to the appropriate Page (market Page or default Page).
  • Root Page: The root Page is invisible and overlooks the whole structure. The root Page gives you insights for all your Global Pages. Admins of the root Page can also manage the Global Page structure at the targeting level, carrying out actions such as:
    • Adding and removing countries
    • Adding and removing languages

First, you must create a Page that you want to add and manage as a Global Page.

If you currently have a single Page, you must manually create new Pages for the local markets that you want to target, in a way that makes sense for your business. We recommend creating one to two market Pages to get familiar with Global Pages before transitioning all markets to the new structure.

Follow these steps to create Global Pages:

  1. Go to your Page.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Click the Global Pages tab.
  4. Add a Page
  5. Set targeting preferences, including which countries and languages you want mapped to that Page.
  6. Click Save Changes.

Bear in mind that an admin of a market Page can edit targeting settings for Global Pages at any time. Also, admins of the root Page can edit the targeting settings for all Pages in the structure at any time. You cannot, however, edit the name of a regional Page if it falls under a Global Page.

If a brand creates new country Pages, content cannot be moved over from any existing Pages.

Search will show one result for your brand in a person's region, including the localised profile picture thumbnail and Page name.

Fans will see only posts from the Page that they belong to. If a fan wants to hear from a different market Page, they can use the region switcher located in the gear icon underneath their cover photo.

A person's language is determined from the language that they set up Facebook in. For example, if a user is using Facebook in English, we consider him or her an English speaker.

A person's location information is determined through a combination of inputs, such as current IP address and profile information. If we're unable to determine where someone is and use a specific market Page, we'll redirect them to your default Page.

Transitioning to Global Pages

Bear in mind that old content will not be automatically deleted from existing Pages (unless the brand decides to delete any old Pages during transition).

No. However, brands can work with third-party developers to re-post key content from the current Page onto relevant new Pages.

Make sure that you also reinstall your Pages apps to the new Pages, which is a quick process.

We recommend starting with 1-2 Pages before transitioning all of them to give brands the opportunity to experience the new structure. This will allow brands time to fully understand how to manage their Pages in the new structure.

If a brand has separate Pages for each region, you can consolidate them in the Global Pages structure to:

  • Remove country qualifiers from the Page name
  • Consolidate all stats, such as likes, across all Pages to one global metric
  • Ensure that new visitors are landing on the localised version of their Page
  • Promote one Facebook username across all off-Facebook marketing assets

Managing Pages, Roles, Insights and Settings

Admins of the root Page can add, edit and remove roles on the root Page and organise the Global Page structure. People managing the root Page will also have access to the insights for each market Page.

However, people managing the root Page will not have access to edit market Pages, unless they have a role on those specific Pages as well.

If you are an admin of the root Page, you can add new market Pages to the Global Pages structure as follows:

  1. Go to the Global Pages tab in Page settings, then click Add a Page.
  2. Select the desired Page from the drop-down menu.
  3. Click Add Page.

The name of the Page will change to match the name of the other Pages in the structure. The Page category will change to match the Page category of all the other Pages in the structure.

Bear in mind that you'll also need to be an admin of the market Page that you want to add.

When a person tags your Global Page brand by writing a post, they can mention a brand in a Global Page structure.

Then, the post will appear in the 'Visitors Posts' section of the Page that matches the person's best-matched Page.

You can create a Page post, and tag your own brand in the post, by tagging the default Page and market Pages.

The suggested tag will match either the default Page or one of the market Pages, depending on your location and language settings, or preferred Page.

When a person clicks on the tag, they will be redirected to the brand's best-matched Page, based on their location and language.

After the transition to Global Pages, it will take a week for insights to accurately reflect the Pages in their Global Pages structure.

However, the insights are not retroactive. This means that if a brand transitioned to Global Pages in March 2015, the brand viewing their current insights will see the same insights that they would have seen in January 2015.

Both default and market Pages will have their own insights. People managing the root Page can see insights about the fans aggregated across all of the Pages.

You cannot create a Page for just a city or county/region. However, you can publish to people in a particular city/county/region such as London, for example, by publishing from the UK Page and targeting users in London.

Global Pages work at a country and language level. The first level of targeting is done on a country level. Then, if you wish, you can add an additional layer of targeting by language. For example, for a country such as Canada where people speak both English and French, you can:

  • Create a market Page for Canada and add language targeting to each post. To publish something in a particular city or county/region, we'd recommend publishing from the country market Page and targeting users in that specific city or county/region.
  • Create two Pages for one country. One for people who speak one language and another Page for those who speak another language. Depending on the language people set up their Facebook in, they will be redirected to one of the market Pages in the language or to the Default Page.
  • Create a Page for Canada with English targeting and redirect people who speak other languages to another market Page. E.g. redirect people who speak French to the France Page or redirect people who speak Spanish to the Mexico Page etc. There are many combinations possible.

Deleting a Page is a permanent action that can't be reversed.

If you delete one of the market Pages in the Global Pages structure, the fans of that Page will move to the default Page.

For example, if the brand wants to delete their Page for Japan, the root Page needs to edit the targeting for the Japanese Page and remove Japan as a country. Once removed, an admin of the Page can delete it from the Page settings menu.

Note: Global Pages are only available to managed Facebook clients. More details on Global Pages, including how to remove your Page can be found in the product guide.
