Create in-stream video ads

30/11/2019
If you're an advertiser in the US, you can now use the in-stream video placement with the App Installs objective. This option is not available for advertisers in other countries yet.

The in-stream video advertising placement allows you to deliver 5-15 second mid-roll video ads to people watching videos on Facebook and through Audience Network. If you need to deliver longer or more complex messages with sound on, you may consider using in-stream video. Only publishers and creators who meet strict requirements are eligible to place ad breaks in their video content.

In-stream video is available as a placement in Ads Manager when you use the Video Views, Brand Awareness, App Installs, Reach and Engagement (Post Engagement) objectives.

In-stream video targeting is audience-based, and viewers of the same video on Facebook and Audience Network may see different ads depending on their interests.

Select in-stream video in Ads Manager

  1. Go to Ads Manager.
  2. Click + Create.
  3. Choose Video Views, Brand Awareness, App Installs, Reach Or Engagement (Post Engagement) as your objective.
  4. Fill in the details of your campaign, including your audience, budget and schedule.
  5. In the Placements section, choose Automatic placements or Edit placements.
    • If you choose Automatic placements, in-stream video is automatically included along with other optimal placements for delivery of your ad.
    • If you choose Edit placements, you can select in-stream video (along with other placements).

Exclude your in-stream video ads from certain categories

You can avoid delivering your in-stream video ads within specific content categories (such as debatable social issues or mature content). This prevents your ads from appearing inside videos with content related to those topics.

Note: Facebook will try to ensure that your ad is not shown against the categories of content that you choose to block, but can't guarantee success in blocking your ad 100% of the time.

  1. Select an objective that supports in-stream video.
  2. In the Placements section, choose Edit placements.
  3. Select Exclude categories.
  4. Choose the categories in which you don't want your ads to be seen.

Note: Choosing to exclude categories will give you fewer delivery options and narrow your audience.
