Create an Instant Experience for ads on Instagram

Instant Experience, formerly known as Canvas, is an immersive full-screen format for mobile devices that anyone can use. You can use an Instant Lookbook or Instant Storefront to give people more information about your products or services before asking them to make a purchase. With Instagram, Instant Experiences, formerly known as Canvas, is supported in both stories and feed.

Before you begin

  • Decide what sort of experience you want to create for people
  • Have the creative assets (such as images and videos) that you'd like to use ready
  • See if you'd like to use instant experience templates

Set up your ad

  1. Go to Ads Manager.
  2. Click +Create ad.
  3. Choose an objective that supports an Instant Experience format, such as Traffic or Conversions
  4. Name your campaign and click Continue.
  5. Choose your ad's audience, then click Save this Audience.
  6. In the Placements section, select the Edit Placements option.
  7. Under Platforms, select Instagram and then tick Stories or Feed in the checkbox.
  8. Enter your budget and scheduling details.
  9. Connect your ad to a Facebook Page and an Instagram account.
  10. Select an ad format (such as single image or single video, for example).

Create an instant experience

  1. Tick the box for Add a full-screen instant experience, then click +.
  2. Click Open blank instant experience in the instant experience builder.
  3. Give your instant experience a name, select the components you want to add and how you want them to fit a mobile screen and click Save.
  4. Under Settings, turn on the Support Instagram option.
  5. (Optional) To see your instant experience or have someone else preview it, click Preview or Share.
  6. Click Finish.

Now that you've created an instant experience, formerly known as Canvas, which can be run in ads in stories on Instagram, you can track metrics on your instant experience.
