Upload offline event data

30/11/2019

Upload data about your offline events so that Facebook can attribute your offline events, interactions and transactions to your Facebook advertising campaigns.

You can upload data from your Offline events page in Business Manager by following the instructions below. You can also automate the upload of your offline event data to Facebook using the offline conversions API or a partner integration.

Before you begin

To upload offline event data, you will need the following:

  • An offline event set that is assigned to your active ad accounts with auto-tracking enabled. This means that the data you upload to the offline event set can be matched and attributed to your active ad campaigns. Learn more about creating an offline event set and enabling auto-tracking.
  • Business Manager admin or offline event set admin permissions in the business that created the offline event set. Learn more about managing offline event set permissions.
  • A .csv data file that includes event name, event time and as much information as possible about your customers so that your offline event data can be matched to Facebook users. For purchase events, include value and currency, as well as order ID and/or item number, if available. Learn more about preparing your offline event data.

Upload offline event data

Go to Offline events

  1. Go to Business Manager, select a business and then select Offline events from the main menu.
  2. Click the name of the offline event set that you want to upload data to and then click Upload offline events.

Select your data file

  1. Click Select file to select your data file (.csv) from your computer, or drag and drop the file into the box.

Tip: Make sure that your data has been prepared with the recommended data and formatting. Click View examples under Customer details, Event time or Event details to learn more about the types of data you can provide. Hover over a data type to see formatting examples.
  2. Click Next: Map data. Facebook will review a sample of your data file and attempt to identify the type of data in each column.

Map your columns to offline event and customer data types

  1. Review each column to verify it has been mapped correctly, and resolve any errors or warnings. Errors and warnings may appear if your data is missing, incorrectly mapped or improperly formatted. Click View examples to review recommend data and formatting examples.
  2. To map a column, hover over the column header, click the Edit (pencil) icon and then select a data type from the drop-down.
    • You can select Custom if one of the predefined data types doesn't apply to a column with event data. Custom event data can be used for creating segments in your reporting or building Custom Audiences. Custom data is not used for matching offline events to people on Facebook, so please do not add custom data fields for customer details or identifiers; use the predefined data types under Customer details only.
    • You can select Ignore if you don't want a column to be processed and uploaded to Facebook.

Be sure that you review any errors and map as many columns as possible before proceeding to improve our ability to match your data to people on Facebook. You may not be able to click Next until errors have been addressed.

  3. Click Next: Review. Facebook will process a sample of your data file in order to identify any issues for you to review and resolve.

Review any issues with your data

  1. Review your results and decide whether to continue with your upload, or go back to modify your file and/or mapping. Click to expand a warning to see more details about the issue and recommendations for resolving it.

Offline events that are uploaded cannot be deleted or updated, so we recommend resolving as many issues as possible before uploading. Learn more about troubleshooting upload errors and warnings.
  2. If you want to submit a new data file, click Back to return to Select your file. Otherwise, click Start upload when you're ready for your full data file to be processed and uploaded.

Complete your upload

When complete, you'll see the final number of rows that were uploaded and/or skipped. If rows were skipped, you'll see the reasons why they were skipped.

Depending on the size of your file, it can take up to 15 minutes for your results to display in Events Manager and Facebook ads reporting.
