Chapter 2: Getting around Ads Manager

30/11/2019

In this chapter, you'll learn about the ad management options available to you in Ads Manager.

Organise your campaigns, ad sets and ads

As you create more ads in Ads Manager, you can easily search and filter your ads to retrieve information about a specific ad. (For example, you want to share the results of a past campaign with an agency you're working with.) In Ads Manager, you can search for your ads individually, apply filters to ads or view your ads on the dates when they run.

Take action on your ads

In the Campaigns, Ad sets and Ads tabs, you'll find different options for creating and managing your ads.

  • Create Campaign / create ad set / create ad: Click this button to create a new campaign, ad set or ads. If you create a new ad set or ads, you'll need to attach it to a new or existing campaign or ad set respectively. Learn more about creating campaigns, ad sets or ads in Ads Manager.
  • Edit: If you want to update your ads after you've published them, you can edit them. When you edit your ads, you can update details such as your targeting, placements or creative. Learn more about editing your campaigns, ad sets and ads in Ads Manager.
  • Duplicate campaign/ad set/ad: If you want to reuse your campaigns, ad sets or ads, you can duplicate them. When you duplicate your ads, you can decide to publish them as they are, or edit their details before you publish. Learn more about duplicating your campaigns, ad sets or ads.
  • Create Rule: You can create automated rules that automatically update or notify you of changes to your campaigns, ad sets or ads. Rather than checking the performance of your campaigns, ad sets or ads daily, automated rules can run these checks for you and perform the actions that you'd normally do manually. Learn more about automated rules.
  • Preview (ads tab only): If you want to see what your ad looks like across different placements (for example, News Feed), you can preview the ad. You can also share your preview or see how the ad looks with comments and reactions. Learn more about previewing your ads.
  • More: If you want to turn your ads on or off, or delete your ads, click More. Learn more about turning your ads on and off or deleting them.

Locate the results you care about

You can view specific data and learn if your campaigns, ad sets and ads are helping you meet your business goals by customising the columns in the Ads Manager table. You can choose from different reporting templates (such as Delivery or Engagement) or customise the columns of the table with different metrics.

Update your ads and see how well your ads are performing

On the right-hand side of Ads Manager, you can open the side pane to edit your ads, view the results of your ads in rich, visual charts and see a timeline of all updates made to your ads. When you want to edit your ad or view your overall advertising performance or history, click to tick the box next to the ad, then click .

Here's what you can do:

View your charts: For every ad that you run on Facebook, you can view the charts for your data to see how well your ad is performing. This can include how many people see your ad, how many people engage with your ad and how much your ad costs. You can also view breakdowns by age, gender and placement in the charts. Learn more about reporting in Ads Manager.

  • Performance: The Performance chart shows the number of people who click on your ad, the number of people you reach and the overall cost of your ad. If you scroll over the line chart, you'll see individual results for that day reflected in the chart. If you want to change the results you see in the charts, click Custom and choose the metrics you want to view.

  • Demographics: The Demographics chart shows how your ad performs across different ages and genders. You can scroll over each section of the chart to see individual results for each age group.

  • Placement: The Placement chart shows your ad's performance across different placements, such as Facebook or Instagram. Depending on where your ad is eligible to appear, you'll see where your ad is receiving the most delivery. You can also click the drop-down menu to see where your ad appears on mobile and desktop devices.

Edit your ads: When you edit your ads in Ads Manager, you can change details such as your audience, placements or budget. If you edit multiple ads at the same time, bear in mind that some editing options may not be available if they have different objectives, ad formats or budgets. Learn more about editing in Ads Manager.

Review recent activity on your ads: You can view a history of the changes on your ad account in Ads Manager. You can see who made changes to your ad account, what changes were made to your ads and when those changes were made. You can see the changes made to most of your ad accounts as far back as January 2014. Learn more about your activity history in Ads Manager.

Now that you've found your way around Ads Manager, it's time to learn how to create your first ad in the next chapter.
