This article features newly released updates and features that are gradually being rolled out over time. Some features may not be available to you yet.

Collection is always evolving to meet your needs. Here are the latest updates and features:

July 2018

  • Create a collection ad in Creative Hub: You can now create a Facebook collection ad in Creative Hub, our platform for designing ad mock ups that can then be imported into Ads Manager. Try it out!

June 2018

  • Use the collection ad format on Instagram: You can now use the "Sell products (grid layout)" template to run collection ads on Instagram (the "Sell products (grid layout)" template is the only template that is supported on Instagram). Collections on Instagram:
    • Features three products instead of four
    • Supports square (1:1), full landscape/horizontal (16:9) and slideshow. Note: Vertical ratios higher than 1:1 aren't supported on Instagram.
    • Doesn't support headlines. If you want to run a collection ad across Facebook and Instagram, bear in mind that the headline won't be shown on Instagram.

April 2018
  • Add tabs to Canvas in a collection ad: You can now add multiple tabs to a Canvas in a collection ad. Using the Canvas templates Sell products: grid Layout or Sell products: lifestyle layout in a collection ad, you can add tabs that showcase different product types or themes (for example, "men's clothing" or "women's clothing"). When people see your collection ad and open it, they can swipe through the different tabs to see products relevant to them. Learn more about using tabs in a collection ad.

January 2018
  • Create a dynamic ad using the collection ad format: You can now create a collection ad using dynamic ads targeting, either by retargeting people who have expressed interest in your products before or by targeting a broad audience of people who may be interested in similar products to yours. Learn more about creating a dynamic ad with the collection ad format.
  • Placement optimisation for collection: While collection is limited to the Facebook mobile News Feed, you can now include collection ads in the same ad set with ads of different formats.
November 2017
  • Choose products to show in a collection: You can now control how your products appear in a collection ad by choosing individual products from your catalogue (based on their name or product ID and colour). Learn more about controlling which products appear in a collection ad.

  • Use a minimum of four products in a collection: Previously, you needed a minimum of eight products to use your collection ad to sell products. Now, you only need a minimum of four products from your catalogue to use the Sell products template with collection.
  • Add a slideshow to a collection: You can now add a slideshow to the cover video in your collection ad. Learn more about slideshow.
October 2017
  • Sell products: lifestyle layout template: To pair your products with lifestyle imagery, use the Canvas template Sell products: lifestyle layout. This template features lifestyle images tagged with products, and is designed to inspire product discovery in the context of rich and immersive visuals, and drive sales. If the business that you represent offers print catalogues to their customers, you may find this solution useful for your business. September 2017
  • Create a Custom Audience for collection and Canvas engagement: Looking to target people who've opened or clicked on a full-screen ad from collection? You can now create an engagement Custom Audience for this audience type. Learn more about creating an engagement Custom Audience for full-screen experiences.
  • Create a collection ad with the Store Visits objective: You can now use the collection ad with the Store Visits objective. When using this objective with collection, you can upsell your products and drive customers to local shops in their area. Learn more about the Store Visits objective.
  • Set up deep links in your ads: You can now set up deep links that send people to a specific page for a website or app when creating a collection ad. You can also add tracking parameters to your deep link if you're using a third-party system to measure the effectiveness of your ads. Learn more about setting up deep links.
